Encouraged and A Christmas Gift

I just want to say thank you to all of you who have sent encouraging comments to me via email or this blog.  I have never felt so uplifted as I have this past week.  And I have to tell you, I think your prayers are working.  For the past 9 months I haven't allowed myself to wallow in self-pity and despair.  But this past week I completely swam in it.  I was so depressed.  The weight of the stress that I was living with was about to break me.  Last night, even, I went to bed at 6pm and woke up 6 times throughout the night with an upset stomach.

But this morning the Lord answered my prayers and I awoke with a renewed sense of hope and peace.  Lucy has been eating better the past 2 days.  I don't know if its enough to keep us free from a G-tube, but its progress.  Even if she ends up needing help, I can say that we all did our best to clear the hurdles.  That sweet little girl has tried her hardest to eat.  God love her.

So, thank you all.  Thank you for your sweet and caring words.  Thank you for your prayers.  Thank you, once again, for loving a little girl that you may never meet this side of heaven.  I may not respond to your comments, but I promise I read them.  Every single one of them.

And here is a bit of encouragement for you.  If you have not spent all of your Christmas budget and are looking for the perfect gift for those "hard-to-shop-for" relatives and friends, let me suggest Compassion International.   Compassion International "exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults."

My girls were given the task of going through the gift catalog and picking out what they would like to give.  We are doing these gifts in honor of special people in our lives.  They chose several items and I narrowed down our list to a grouping that fit our budget.  I was able to print our some great cards detailing what the girls chose that I wrapped and presented as gifts.  My grandparents seemed pretty honored to have a goat bought in their honor!  I only wish our family could do more.

I am encouraged today by you, my dear blog friends, and by my God. I don't know what our doctor appointment will bring tomorrow, but I do know that my God has it under control.  As my friend Sarah D. would say "he's got this."  Yes, yes He does.

  6. Thank goodness there is a blog tonight. I have been so concerned since your Friday one. You have all been so strongly on my heart and mind.
If hope could win this battle, Lucy would be a shoe-in. But combined with prayer, we can hope and pray that better days lie ahead....and soon!
She is a remarkable little girl, but she has remarkable parents to guide her. Never feel that you are forgotten by.....me!

  13. Kate, I have been reading your blog since the beginning of the year (we have a mutual friend who told me about it). Your family's story has touched me in a profound way. Our family prays for Lucy and your family frequently, and your example of strength has been an inspiration to me. God bless little Lucy and your entire family. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, and next year proves to be one of your best ever.

    God bless you,
    Sharon

  14. Lucy proves to be a strong little girl. Whatever the outcome is today it will be the right choice. Lucy will fight this to the very end and she has a strong support system to help her do this. May God be with you all and I hope that you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

  15. When I was going through treatment for childhood cancer, my granny used to sing this old hymn to me: "Day by day and with each passing moment, strength I find to meet my trials here. Judging with the Father's wise bestowment, I've no cause for worry or for fear. He whose heart is kind beyond all measure, gives unto each day what He deems best. Lovingly it's part of pain and pleasure, mingling toil with peace and rest".
    Praying for you each day!

  16. “I think that my Jesus is the same as He was before I walked into this room.”

I read this on someone else's blog (Angie Smith) the other day and thought of you. They too were faced with a crisis over one of their children and this is what came to them after less than optimistic news. Hope, pray, believe. :)

  19. Before I read your post, as I was clicking on the link to go to your page, there was one word in my mind, "hurdles". I was amazed that you mentioned the same word. Go, Lucy, GO! I LOVED the youtube video. Makes me cry every time. May your days be filled with many more giggles and tears of joy in place of tears of sorrow or fear. I pray that Lucy's biggest hurdle and yours as a family is behind you now. GOD BLESS!

  26. I am so happy to read this post today, my heart has been heavy thinking about you and Lucy since reading your last post...I have been following your journey for months now and I have to say that the last paragraph in your previous post was the most profound for me...simply a mother sitting with her child in the stillness of the night, the quiet voice of your prayers to God...only a mother can know that feeling, we have never met but I know in my soul what you were feeling. Wishing you more peace in the days ahead and courage, strength for Lucy and your family.
