Once Again

Once again I find myself playing catch up.  Blogging, cleaning, taking down Christmas decorations.  Seems to be the way of life for me.  I'm going to cut myself some slack on the decorations since I actually have until, January 13, the first Sunday after Epiphany, to take them down.  As of posting, all but 3 trees are down.  Everything else is put away.  So, that has to count for something.  Did I mention that I WAY overdo it when it comes to Christmas?

Today I also gave myself-rather our family- a break. One of the lessons I have tried to learn over the past two years is to allow myself to live without fear of judgement.  Today....we didn't go to church.  Instead, we let the kids sleep late and enjoyed a peaceful day in our pajamas, spending time together as a family.  It was everything I had hoped it would be.  God was there.  In the details.  In the joy moments of watching the kids play, laughing at Lucy dancing to Wii Dance Disney edition, in her funny little way of moving.  God was there.

Then, to round off a wonderful day, my dear friend Tricia came to visit.  We became good friends right after college, when Erik and I attended church in Memphis.  We have always stayed in touch, but not like I had hoped we might.   Life happens.  I think we will try to do better.

I wanted to get a picture with her today (it was the only reason I took a shower) but I completely forgot.  Thankfully my OCD organizational skills paid off today, as I was able to go back on my computer and find pictures from 2006.  This was one of the last pictures we had made together.  We were skiing in Colorado.  Fun times!  Love you sweet friend!

Ella had her first basketball game this weekend.  From what I saw she did great.  I hear she played defense very well.  I wouldn't really know.  This was my job during the game...

Erik and I were also able to sneak in a much needed date night this Saturday.  Anyone who reads this blog knows I am an avid fan of musicals.  My precious husband, and our friends Amanda and Nelson, all tagged along to see Les Miserables with me.  It. Was. Amazing!  Like, ugly cry and sobbing amazing.  Look, I even wore my glasses in preparation.

The rest of the weekend consisted of lots of snuggling, something I can't seem to get enough of lately.

I guess the only question I would have at the end of the day is this.  "If he can bring me a diaper and the box of wipes, all on his own, does that mean he's ready to potty train?"

  4. We typically go to church every single Sunday, however we also completely agree that sometimes a day at home as a family is more important. Like last Sunday for our family :). Glad you had a great weekend and enjoyed your family day! God Bless!

  6. Hi Kate. Cuddles days are so important. Little Son and I have them quite often and it does us so much good. In UK we are led to believe the decorations have to be down by the 6th - I hate taking them down because they are so pretty. Next year i will keep them until the 13th. You are quite sure there won't be any goblins!!! (don't know if you are told that in US but we have a tradition that says if you leave the decorations up too late little goblins will live in your house and get up to mischief - lol). Have a good week. I am also behind and feel like I am always running and not quite arriving. Something to change for this year I hope. Lily. xxx

  7. Hey Kate! I love PJ days...throw in some snuggles and that is the BEST DAY EVER!!! My absolute favourite is when everyone is safe in the house and it's CRAZY cold, windy & Blizzard like conditions outside! We also saw Les Mis this weekend. I wasn't sure what I'd think since I saw the play 5 times but Kate....I'm with YOU!!! WOW!!! I LOVED IT!!! I really think Hugh Jackman should get an Oscar. He was AMAZING!!! Sounds like you had a great weekend. I'm so happy you did. Ohh, BTW...Did the kids get the card with the little treats in them over the holiday? I'm sorry I wasn't able to send as much as last yr. I hope they got it Okay.
Have a great day and God Bless You All Dear Kate!!

  8. I don't know if Jack is ready or not. Our 18 month old brings us a diaper and a change pad and pats her diaper but sometimes it doesn't need changing! And our almost 4-year-old isn't potty trained yet. But we're working on it :)

  9. Les Mis WAS amazing. I bawled through it! I'm glad you got to enjoy a date night! I'm not quite sure how you ever catch up! I have 3 kids and I don't think I ever do...and I don't have as much on my plate as you. You rock, mama!

  10. I hope you are enjoying One Thousand Gifts. It is a beautiful book. My husband bought the devotional book for me for Christmas. It is great, too. I've taken the challenge to count 1000 gifts in 2013. God bless your sweet family.

  11. I can't wait to get my Tervis Glass or glasses from Lucy. I also have a friend that is from your hometown. I was asking her if she knew Lucy and your family and she says her parents do but she doesnt because she moved away several years ago. Small world out there. She reads your blog all the time also. She says her parents tell her about Lucy and what a great family you all are. Glad you had a good day home with your kids to just enjoy them....Prayers to all of you
