The Wonder with a Funny Name

This is a sponsored post. Read below for a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card.

As I think about Lucy's upcoming birthday, I am completely overwhelmed with emotion.  Amazed that this will be birthday #2 since her cancer diagnosis and so very thankful to have spent the past 7 years with one of the most amazing little girls in the world.  I was looking at some pictures of when she was little and I yearn to hold her again as a baby.  I can hardly remember what she felt like in my arms as a newborn, yet it seems just like yesterday.

And just like that, she grew.  How do you make it stop?  Do you really want to?  I long for those days sometimes, especially with Lucy.  When life was simple.  That girl has kept me on my toes from day one!

I have to giggle when I think about how far I have come as a mother.  Oh, how the little things would get me so worked up.  I could make a mountain out of a mole hill better than anyone I knew.  When Ella was born everything was a challenge.  My desire to be a perfectionist nearly killed me and ruined me of ever wanting any more children.  When Lucy came along, I had mellowed out a good bit, benefiting most from throwing away all the parenting books and just learning on the job.  Like when I discovered Boudreaux's Butt Paste.

Like every mother before me, when a diaper rash reared its ugly head, I began to panic.  For our children, it seemed that as soon as you saw the first sign it was out of control by the next diaper.  One day I was walking through the grocery and saw this cute little yellow tube that read Boudreaux's Butt Paste.  How could you NOT buy it?  To my surprise, it worked better than any other cream or paste I had tried before.  I was honestly amazed at how quickly Lucy's rash disappeared.  When I told my mom about it, I remember her saying "Boud-what?"  Now when I give a baby gift or when I'm asked for new mom advice, I immediately tell my friends about Boudreaux.

Ok.  So I have to know.  Am I the only one who had a rough go of it as a new mom?  I'd love to hear your "ah-ha" moments or maybe you have some helpful hints on how you prevent or treat diaper rash.  Or maybe you just have a funny story to tell about your experience with Boudreaux's.  Either way, I'd love for you to watch this hilarious video and then add your comments below for a chance to participate in this giveaway!

  1. I'm from south Louisiana where "Boudreaux" is a very common Cajun name. Boudreaux's Butt Paste is one of our best exports! :)

  2. We use Butt Paste all the time. My daughter is a gymnast and we use it on her hands for her rips. Love the stuff. Happy almost birthday to your Lucy!

  4. Diaper rash is the worst, and my eldest had a couple, but after switching to natural bleach-free diapers our kids did not get them. Butt paste was effective - my own mom used it as well - but we were very lucky to not be plagued by diaper rash!

  5. My oldest would get bad diaper rashes all the time. Boudreaux's worked great. The only other thing that worked for us was Corona cream (used for far animals also!)

  8. I felt the same way when my kids were smaller especially with the first two! I felt almost overwelmed to get everything "right". Now that they are teenagers I look back and wish I would have relaxed a little more and just enjoyed their sweetness because they were so sweet. Those times go by so quickly as I know everyone says so if you can slow down and relax and enjoy every moment you will be so thankful when they get older that you took the time to enjoy the baby stage:) I love reading your post. You are such a wonderful mom and your family is inspirational:) God bless!!!!!

  9. This was a really cute video. Being an older first time mom - I felt like I had to do everything 'perfect' but soon found out that there is no 'perfect' way. Only the way that is right for your family! My niece had a baby shower over the weekend and one of her gifts was the Butt Paste!

  10. I've never tried this brand of rash creme, but I've heard good things about it. My advice would be to just enjoy the time and not stress over all the little things. RELAX! Easier said that done. I have to say that video is one of the corniest I've ever seen! Ha, ha!! Please enter me for the chance to win!

  12. The biggest mistake I made prior to having my first child was reading a certain very opinionated parenting book. It basically made you feel like if you didn't parent the way they described from the time your baby was born you were a failure and that's exactly how I felt. When my son didn't get into the feed-wake-sleep cycle as soon as they said he should I felt like a failure. When breastfeeding didn't go over well with him I felt like a failure and so on. I was so stressed out trying to do everything perfectly the first 3 months of my son's life that I missed out on just enjoying him. Obviously as he got older we got in a groove and things got increasingly easier, but I regret to this day stressing over the little things like I did. I missed out. Sometimes I wish I could have a do over. BUT...I learned from that and when I had my daughter I made a conscious decision to just enjoy her and not sweat the small stuff. What a difference! As far as Boudreaux's Butt Paste...it was given to me as a gift when my son was born and I continued using it for all 3 of our kids. :) Love it!

  13. I did have a more difficult time with my first born, I think that is normal. He had reflux and colic so it was a challenge. With the second I was more prepared. As for treating rashes, I always found a night time diaper rash relief cream was most effective and
I also changed their diapers more frequently. This seemed to help.

  17. You are not alone, as a clinical pharmacist for a large medical group many peds docs wondered why they couldn't find bordeaux butt paste to order. Funny part was we didn't know how to spell the drug nor find it, so it took a little while to find it to help a bunch of pts, sorry kids and mom's was not trying to slow down the show, just didn't know what you were all talking about

  18. Loved that little paste too! We also use baking powder....toss a a bit in bathwater and it coats the skin and eliminates the red almost instantly! Love that tip I picked up as a new mom!

  19. Kate - I'm not a mother but have used the Boudreaux's Cream for myself....We went to get a flu shot in the middle of the night (literally 2 a.m.) a few years ago....I had not worn a bra under my shirt as I had a huge chafed area (heat related). The wonderful Walgreen's pharmacist pulled the screen and as i pulled out my arm for the shot - I quickly said that I was without lingerie....she said no problem and noticed the area and took me to the children's isle....she pointed to the Boudreaux's and said "try it"....she laughed at the look on my face but then explained what it was for and promised it would help. As we checked out the cashier (an older lady) said "good stuff".....I went home and immediately applied the cream....the stuff is MAGIC! Chafed / heat rash was gone in almost 24 hours. Thanks for sharing your Mom lessons with us!

I was in my mid twenties and my 4 month old was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis which has left her partially paralyzed, With that, there seemed to be no one to turn to for advice! However, 16 years later, whatever I did, we came through it like champs! My ah-ha moments have been many because as a mom, I screw up all the time, but my kids and husband usually laugh at (with) me to make and make me feel better!
