It's Been a While

Well, hello to anyone who might still be out there.  It's been a while.  I wanted to share an update with you all of Lucy and our family.  I hope this will give you all encouragement and will serve as a huge THANK YOU for the years and years of prayers for our family.

Lucy is doing well.  In about 4 months she will have her last set of scans before she will be in remission.  72 months!  Can you believe it?  When I stop and think about where we were and where we are now I just stand in amazement.  Lucy still has challenges, as she will for the rest of her life.  She has lost all hearing in her left ear and she has lost most of her hearing in her right ear.  With a hearing aid she can function well.  She does have sudden onset hearing loss occurrences and we don't know why.  We have to get her to the doctor and start her on a steroid regimin within 24 hours of the onset.  Its extremely frustrating and "I don't know why" is an unwelcome response.

School continues to be a daily challenge but in true Lucy style she rocks it every day.  She works harder than any other child I know and I am so very proud of her.  It takes all hands on deck with her learning but we are surrounded by an amazing team.  God put us in the perfect place for what He knew our life would demand.

Here is a video we just did for our annual Go Lucy Go Dinner and Auction.  I hope you will enjoy it. It's fairly emotional for me but it sure does tell a great story.  Maybe I'll be able to write a little more often.  It's nice being back :)

  2. I remember reading your blog years ago when Lucy's situation was so grave. I couldn't get her off my mind and the only thing I could come up with was to keep asking God "to raise her up from a body of death and give her life." I prayed it over and over and my church prayed. I remember seeing y'all at Cedar Hill Farm a while after and thanking the Lord for his mercy in her life.

  10. Kate, I have been following your blog for years. I began right before Jack was born. I feel like your family is part of mine. Because of your story and stories like yours, I hold my kids tighter, longer, & more often than I would had. They are God's wonderful gift & I don't want to take one minute for granted.
I watched this video & relived your struggles all over again. God is good ALL the time. He rose up from the rubble & brought greatness. Thank you for sharing & updating us. I wish your family the Merriest of Christmases!

  32. Hi, I've been following your blog since early on in Lucy's diagnosis. I still check in every few months to see if there's an update on her and today I felt compelled to check. I'm so glad to hear she's doing so well and she looks great, too! I'm glad I did check today, as it reminded me of what prayer can do. I was thinking back to a picture you posted so long ago of you holding Lucy in your arms outside the hospital sitting in a wheelchair and ready to say goodbye to her (meanwhile me bawling at my computer), but then you posted afterwards of her wonderful turn of events and how you were so focused on praying for her to die peacefully and be free of pain, that you had forgot to pray for a miracle. And I was needing to be reminded of that. I've been following the journey of someone I went to high school with and her young son who has been battling brain cancer. His name is Remington and he was diagnosed with high grade Anaplastic Astrocytoma at 9 months old. He's now almost 3 and 1/2 and still fighting for his life. They've been back and forth to St. Jude from Northwest Arkansas many times the past 2 and 1/2 yrs. Now many surgeries and rounds of chemo later, there's nothing more they can do there in Memphis, so they're starting a new trial drug in Augusta, GA. This is his last hope. Drs have said he has less than a month to live, but we are all praying for a miracle, because right now you'd never even know that the cancer has taken over the whole left side of his brain. He's happy and active, still walking around and playing and smiling all the time...which is a miracle in itself...no seizures yet. So I ask for anyone else still reading on here to pray for a miraculous healing for this little boy as well. Thanks again for updating us on Lucy and I look forward to many more updates on her and Jack and Ella over the years...
