Choosing:Happy
Today, despite the depths of fear, worry, and hurt I am experiencing, I choose happy. It's not the easy choice, as allowing myself to wallow in pity would be much easier. At times, I also think it would be more pleasurable. But not today. Today I am choosing happy. Here are a few things that brought me joy today/yesterday:
1. Emotions. Lucy had her initial session with her psychologist yesterday and things went great. Lucy really opened up to her and talked a lot about her emotions. When I walked into the room, she totally shut down. Oh, well. I'm thankful for a start.
2. Coffee. I tried to cut it out of my life recently and then decided that was not such a great idea. In general, my attitude has turned to a "life is too short" kind of mind-frame. And you know what? It is. Life is too short and you never know what tomorrow will bring. So drink up! Enjoy your coffee.
3. Love. It's that simple. The thing of earth that keeps me going. I give it freely and receive it graciously.
4. Surprises. I had so much fun today assembling these goodies for our children, their teachers and our nieces. Who doesn't love a fun treat when you aren't expecting it?
5. Freedom of expression. Let loose, baby boy, and fly free sweet Ella!
6. Arts and crafts. Without then, she would be lost. They are a refuge for her. When she is tired, stressed, worried, mad...she wants to color. I should probably own stock in Crayola.
7. Friends. Young and old, big and small. I am so thankful for the wonderful gang of friends that I have. I am so very blessed with the girls (and guys) that God has placed in my life. I don't know what I would do without them.
8. Music. Oh, sweet music. It soothes my soul and calms my mind. It elicits emotions that I never knew I had. Finding just the right song is like freedom for my spirit. Tonight I was asked to sing with three of my closest and dearest friends. All of our children (expect for one friend) are in the same choir group of church. Every year the children's choir performs a Spring musical and this year it is one with a patriotic theme. In the musical is a song that the 4 of us sang when we were 12 or 13 years old. It's called the 50 States in Rhyme, and in it you sing the name of the 50 states really quickly. It's super cute and I remember every single word as if I sang it only yesterday. All that leads up to our performance tonight and Lucy's sheer delight at watching her Mommy sing. She was totally mesmerized and so very proud. I am happy tonight because of music.

The Not So Great Adventure
Otherwise know as our life some days. Today sucked. That's all I got.
Tomorrow will be better...I pray. An unplanned day at St. Jude awaits us, as we try to figure out why Lucy is so emotional right now. She's a time bomb waiting to explode. And when it happens, it's not pretty.
Please say a prayer for her. I think she's finally starting to deal with a lot of what's happened to her and she's not handling it well. Who can blame her? We had a breakthrough tonight, though. In her words "its just not fair."
But we will be strong. We are going to focus on the positive. We are going to look to God for strength and clarity. Tomorrow is a new day, brimming with hope and optimism.
"Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall." Psalms 55:22

Irons in the Fire
Yep, I've got too many of them. Irons in the fire, that is. Look at my garage.
After a major shipping snafu, we will finally be shipping the first orders of Tumblers on Monday. I apologize to everyone who has placed an order and haven't received your Tumblers yet. I promise they will be to you soon. Call it beginners "luck," but shipping out 200 boxes hasn't been easy. Thanks to our friends at Seismic Audio in Memphis, I think we finally have a great system in place. Please be patient with us while we work out the kinks. The other huge surprise is that we've had to reorder Tumblers 3 times!! We had no idea we would sell so many. What a blessing. So, more are on order and you will have yours in your hands ASAP.
I've always been one to be happiest when I'm busy. Right now, I might be a little too busy. That's OK, though. One major event ended this weekend..with a BANG I might add. Our school holds an annual Spaghetti dinner and auction. It's our biggest fund raiser and most of the proceeds go to technology. I was on the auction committee and thankfully this one is behind me. The girls both sang and had the best time!
Before the spaghetti dinner, we were able to have a lazy morning. Ella got the iPad out and starting playing DJ. It's her new favorite thing to do. She is growing up so quickly and her love for music is really starting to blossom. She played DJ and they all danced. It was so sweet watching them all play together.
Jack had the most fun I think. (then he collapsed from dancing to much)
On a totally unrelated note.....Seriously...look at this hair. I'm not sure what we are going to do with it. Radiation destroyed most of her hair follicles. What she has now is probably all she's ever going to get back. The whole back of her head is bald. She doesn't know it and even if she did I'm not sure she would care. At least not now. One day soon she might and then I guess we will look into a prosthesis. They make some amazing hair pieces these days. Even some that you can swim in and pull into a ponytail. They are very expensive (think $3k), so we won't make that investment until she asks for it. Right now, hats work just fine.
Back on track. Sorry. Ella's basketball career for 2013 is winding down. Only a few games left. Below you will see that Jack is starting to get into the game. He's an assistant coach in the making.
Ella won a karaoke machine in the silent auction. It's going to be a non-stop party in our house for a while. She was so excited and is already asking to have her friends over. I just love this age!
Today it was Sunday as usual. Church, lunch at my parents and then a day of resting. Tonight I am taking the girls to see Mary Poppins. They are excited but I'm bursting at the seams. I can't wait!

My grandparents came and I snapped this sweet picture. They were watching Lucy sing and I can only imagine what they were thinking. I know I was so busy singing praises to God that I could hardly hear what they were singing. All I know is that my miracle child was up there singing her heart out to God and loving every minute of it.

Lots of Randomness
Today....was a good day. Lucy has gotten over her near psychosis state from emergency doses of hydrocortisone. Whew. It's been a VERY hard week. Add a 2 year old steroid monster and you have a heck of a week. I'm so glad it's Friday. Fun Fridays will start next week. 2 sick kiddos does not leave a lot of time for Mom to play on the computer.
We started working on marketing materials for the race today. This part of race planning is so much fun. Can't you envision it now? This ladybug theme by EPC Photography is to die for! Have you registered yet:? If not, click on THIS LINK.
There's always time for more pictures. Ella was just precious with these props. I know there are going to be some amazing pictures to choose from.
TGIF! That's all I can say. Our Friday night ritual at the local Mexican restaurant is something I look forward to all week long. Good food, good friends. What more could you want?
If you have a moment, I'd love for you to read about my friend Owen. He's waiting on a heart and his family would appreciate your prayers. They are such a precious family---we were on our Make A Wish Trip at the same time last year. I can't imagine what stress they are living with each and every day. The reality of so many sick children in our country is a heavy burden that weighs on me every day. Our God is good and I know He is faithful. I would like to ask you all to pray for the Simmons family. He is a mighty God and He hears our prayers.
Have a wonderful Friday. I'll check in tomorrow!
