Anatomy of a Family Picture

This is what happens when I try to make a picture play out in real life like it does my mind.  Utter failure.  To be fair, it was late and the kids had already posed for a million pictures.  This, however, was the picture I really wanted.  The outfits were perfectly planned and the canvas was already made (in my mind.)  Oh, well. Better luck next time.

We did manage to get some great family shots, but not without a few funny ones that make us laugh.  This one was the funniest by far.  It is seriously the worst picture ever of myself and my sister in law is probably going to kill me for posting this!

In the end, there were some frame worthy pictures to be proud of.  I have bought a couple of Groupon deals for Canvas on Demand and I have been so pleased.  I think some special grandparents might be getting pictures for Christmas this year.

Then, there are always the ones that just happen.  The best pictures are rarely ever planned:

For those that asked, we stayed at the Edgewater Beach Resort in Panama City Beach, Florida.  The beach trip was wonderful.  Is it time to go back?

I love Merle and Judy - great to see recent pics of them! Merle was my longtime soccer coach; he was able to put up with a bunch of wild teenage girls and should get an award! Looks like you guys had a nice trip together!

  5. Lovely! Out takes are some of my favorite shots! They show the real mess of a family. And you are so right. Those accidental candida are the best. Canvas worthy or not your family is beautiful. I know I don't need to tell you that. But I will. Lucy looks woeful. She is getting the sparkle back in her beautiful blue eyes. What a joy to see.

  6. Hi Kate!
I love your pictures. The one with the kids dressed all in white is so cute, I loved their outfits and the back drop is the BEST. I also loved the one with all of the girls, the one with you and your little girls and the one with Jack on the man's shoulders pointing down.

I'm soo HAPPY you had some GREAT family time and at the BEACH!!! What could be better!?!?!?! The best part was seeing EVERYONE SMILE!!!! Lucy looks great!!! It's hard to believe she was so sick just a few weeks ago when you see the pictures!

Thanks for sharing Kate!! I really enjoyed seeing your pictures!!

  7. Great post! And it seems as if our lives keep kind of crossing paths. I have crohns disease and was just down the street from you you at Emory university hospital when you were at Children's in Atlanta with sweet Lucy. Actually, I'm still in the hospital and my little boy was at Edgewater in PC with his grandparents the same time as you all were...they always stay at that resort and LOVE it. Thank you for your continuous updates on Lucy, they are very encouraging to say the least! :)

  8. Kate, These pictures brought tears to my eyes, just thinking how much you all deserved all these beautiful smiles. There is nothing in the world more precious than family and smiles, well and lots of hugs and kisses from your babies. Jack is one handsome little boy and I love those curls, every girl would love to have them. (I remember trying to get those with perms)HA. Thanks for sharing you photos and family fun.

You don't know me, however, I just wanted you to know that my breath caught when I saw the pictures you "thought" you had to have the perfect outfit, perfect backdrop, etc. Just look at how Ella has her arms around Lucy...the love, the bond, the sweetness of that photo...you captured the moment girl! I am speechless and that is hard to do!
