The Stockings Were Hung

Actually, our stockings were so full we had to set them on the fireplace! St. Nick visited tonight, as he does every year on December 6th.  When the kiddos got out of the bath tonight there were some fun surprises waiting on them.   Jack was very excited!

The girls were pretty excited, too.

And Daddy even got some treats in his stocking!

I love this tradition that we started about 4 years ago.  Erik's family is German, so this is a family tradition that has been passed down for generations.  I hope that our children do this with their own families one day.  My heart is full tonight and I am so very thankful for my family.  It wasn't too long ago that we didn't know what our family would look like at this point.  Every day is a miracle.  This Christmas is going to be the best one ever.

  2. In Germany the Santa Claus fills your boots during the night and when you wake up on december 6th the boot in front of your house is filled. A little different :)

  3. I had never head of this before until two friends posted photos on facebook of their kids opening stockings. I guess it is something that is pretty common in Wisconsin along with the pickle :-) Looks like a lot of fun!

  6. What a great Christmas tradition!

I received the St. Jude calendar in my marathon packet last weekend and was so happy to see Lucy's picture for the month of June. It is hanging on the fridge open to June right now. I figure we can leave it like that until January. =)

  7. We do St Nick's Day, too! I wanted to do stockings, but since it's also Eli's birthday, we decided to scale it down and just do a few goodies in their shoes, then stockings filled on Christmas. I don't think Eli gets the St. Nick's tradition--I think he believes it's just our way of kicking off his birthday. lol

  8. Jack's face is priceless! I love it!
I used to do this when I was growing up too. My sisters and I would stick our shoes by the front door on Dec 5th, and when we woke up, we had candy inside our shoes! I was trying to explain this to my husband the other night, and he acted like I was crazy and making something up!
Do you guys do the Pickle too?

    Love and Prayers,

  10. I love your tradition! We celebrate the 12 days of Christmas leading up to the 25. Our girls get little treats from mommy and daddy and on Christmas Eve they get a new pajama's.

  11. We do this too! My mother is from Germany, so when we were little she had us put our shoe outside our bedroom door, in the morning we had German chocolates and gummy bears (she had her family send them by parcel bc you couldn't buy them in the States back then, especially the Kinder Chocolate.) Now, I hang a stocking on each of my children's bedroom doors and in the morning they have treats and small toys from Saint Nicholas. They get so excited! MERRY CHRISTMAS! Continued prayers and love sent from Texas!
