Strep..Seriously?

Ella has no tonsils.  How in the world does she get Strep throat?  Seriously?!

Honestly, as soon as I saw her at school that red checks were a dead giveaway.  She always gets red cheeks with strep.  When her test came back positive I went into panic mode.  Lucy can NOT get strep and she has had the same nagging cough as Ella since Sunday.  As soon as I got Ella home I immediately put Lucy in the car (kicking and screaming I might add) and took her to get swabbed, too.  Thankfully she tested negative, but I am going to be keeping a very close eye on her.  We go to St. Jude tomorrow for a post-operative checkup and I may have them re-run the test for good measure.

Ella feels crummy but has been quite a trooper.  She enjoyed some much deserved couch time and Momma lovin' today.

On a more cheerful note, today was red day in Kindergarten.  Red is my absolute favorite color, so I was quite happy to dress Lucy this morning.  Doesn't she look adorable?

And how funny is this?  Jack has discovered the computer and he loves to watch Thomas the Train.

Oh, and in between taking kids to the doctor today I managed to try a new Pinterest recipe for dinner.  I am determined to increase our dinner repertoire.  This one might not be for everyone, but we really enjoyed it.  Brown Sugar Kielbasa with Apples and Onions.  My picture isn't as pretty, but it was really yummy none the less!

Good night!

  1. Praying Lucy doesn't get it!

But I've never known lack of tonsils to have any correlation with not getting strep? Lessening it a bit maybe, but...not at all?

When I had my tonsils out, it turned into now did I not only get strep, but I'd get ear infections (often in both ears - which I'd never had prior to that) and sinus infections all at once. Unfortunately, even at, well...close to 40, I still don't get one without the others, regardless of what it starts out as. And I am GOOD about catching it quickly - most of the time with strep the quick test won't even catch it, it has to be the long test because I know that early on to having it that that's what's up...and I STILL can't get enough antibiotic in fast enough to avoid the lovely trifecta!

Anyway, praying Ella feels better quickly and that the rest of you, and Jack, and especially Lucy, stay healthy!

  2. Poor Ella :( Hope ALL of the rest of you can stay strep-free! Unfortunately, Cade has had strep 4 times since he had his tonsils out 2 years ago. We finally decided it was embedding in his sinuses. Took some heavy duty antibiotics, but we got it knocked out - finally! Hope Ella is feeling better soon!! ... And, love the red, too :)

  5. Hope Ella feels better soon and hopefully Lucy doesn't get it! That's a cute picture of Jack watching Thomas the train and that meal looks yummy but we don't eat much meat unless it's vegetarian, once in awhile chicken, turkey and fish though.

  9. My daoughter used to get strep too, with NO tonsils! The doctor kept telling me strep is the throat not the tonsils. I guess she outgrew it. She's 19 now and only gets it from time to time! Hope she feels better: :)

  10. Strep throat is not related to having/not having tonsils.

I'm sorry Ella does not feel well.

  11. I am not a kielbasa fan, but it sure looks good anyway. My kids love the computer also and my two year old know how to turn on netflix, pick a movie and watch it by herself. Kids and technology today. Lucy looks adorable and I love her outfit, I love outfits like that anyway and am kind of drawn to sailor stuff. Poor Ella, two of my kids and myself just went through that a short time ago. Since we started it, it has hit my mom, sister, nieces and nephews, it still is making its rounds. We are praying for you all and that Lucy doesn't get it. Now we have pink eye going through the house...it has started with my middle one and I wait for the next one now. Have a great day and prayers coming your way.

  12. Hope everyone feels better soon! Strep has been going around in GA for several Month now. Luckily our Family got spared so far. Kielbasa, yum, I always keep some at Home and use it on Nights when I am too tired to cook a big Meal or too lazy to run out to the Store after watching my Grandson all Day. I hardly ever use Recipes when I cook, but rather look into my Pantry and start throwing Things together. You can make many, cheap, fairly healthy and quick Meals with Kielbasa and they all taste different, love it : ) Love the Pics, my Grandson loves to play the free Fisher Price online ABC Game for Toddlers online, he is now 21 Month old : )

  14. My son had his tonsils out when he was 4. He has had strep once since then. His throat never hurt, but he was throwing up. My 5 year old daughter has probably had it 15 times, so only getting it once isn't that bad.
Last fall I had a cough for over a month. It only went away when I was treated for strep. I will pray specifically that Lucy will not pick it up.
And you inspired me to try a new internet recipe. It is cheesy quinoa mac n cheese. We will see if the family eats it tonight.

  16. I hope Ella is feeling better soon and that Kate doesn't get it. That's all the poor girl needs! Kate, can I ask you mention to your readers to keep Hannah in their prayers. www.angelsforhannah.com She is a little girl from Victoria, British Columbia who has just been diagnoised with Stage 4 Rhabdomyosarcoma. There are only three other children in the world who have had this form of cancer and she is the first in BC. Her family lost there home to a fire a year ago as well. Here is a link to the local newspaper article about her.

Thank you Kate. You are so good about asking for prayers for others in your own time of need. You have so much strength it amazes me.
