Late Night Update

Today was rather uneventful.  Lucy slept until around 2:00, I had lunch with my friend Sarah and Amanda and my Dad came for a visit.  Lu was supposed to receive her second dose of Vincrystin today, but they had to postpone it for a couple of reasons.  They should be able to give it to her tomorrow though.  She took a couple of walks around the floor today which was great exercise for her.  I often worry about her little muscles (what little she has) wasting away to nothing while she spends so much time in the bed.

(Lucy and my Dad)

Tonight we spent time on the couch playing Toy Story Dominoes, Toy Story Match and, of course, Candyland (her favorite)!

The hot chocolate cart came by during game time, too!  What a treat for me.

Right now there are fireworks doing off downtown.  I'm not sure who is doing them or why they are doing them on the 30th, but either way they are pretty to watch.  It makes me sad to think that we will spend the 4th in the hospital.  We are usually at the lake on the 4th watching fireworks with countless others who take in the breathtaking spectacle.  I look forward to many years of fireworks to come with 3 healthy kids and a wonderful husband!

  2. Oh gosh. I spent a lonely 4th of July in the hospital a couple years ago when my mom was sick. I remember it was weird hearing the beebs of the ICU while the beautiful fireworks were going on outside. At least we had a room with a view! Sorry to be Debbie Downer with that memory, but my heart goes out to you and I can actually relate to a tiny shred of what you're experiencing.

On the up side, Lucy is looking good in the pictures! Makes me happy to see her smiling. Hang in there! Tomorrow is a new day! God is good!

  6. Hi Kate! This is the first time I've posted on your blog...I am one of the many strangers that reads your blog several times a day and prays for your sweet Lucy, you and your family constantly. For some reason today I just felt compelled to tell you what an inspiration you are to me. I am a wife and mother of three young children just as you are, and the way you are with your family and the faith you have in God are truly AMAZING to me. You unknowingly have made me a better and more faithful person and for that, I am ever so thankful to you. I live in Memphis and every time I pass St. Jude, I pray for the sweet angels that are at that wonderful hospital each and everyday. Now, because of you and your blog, I feel like I "know" one of those sweet angels personally. I know that you and your family have a million people praying for you and supporting you during this crazy difficult time, but please know that my family is also a part of that huge crowd. My husband and children have also read all about Lucy and seen the precious pictures of all of you. In fact, several people have told us that they think that my youngest daughter looks like Lucy! Anyway, I won't continue to babble; I just wanted you to know how much I admire you for all that you're doing and thank you for sharing your days with me and so many other people. I pray that God will continue to strengthen you, your husband, and your three beautiful children, especially Lucy.

  8. We were in the hospital last 4th of July. Sarah and I watched the downtown fireworks from the 9th floor window. It was a great view, but not the same as really being there. This year, our whole family will go and enjoy together with a totally healthy little girl. Praying for the same for you next year! (I kept a blog throughout our experience. If you would ever like to read through it, you are more than welcome! The link is living-the-abundant-life.blogspot.com. You will need to go to the archives back to the beginning last June. That was the beginning of our journey. I felt like God gave me a lot to say that might be encouraging to you.) Blessings to you!
