Hurting Tonight

Tonight I write with the heaviest heart.  I can hardly breathe and the amount of pain I feel is so intense.  Our sweet friend, Justin (the one that Lucy has been with since day 1 of this journey) was taken by ambulance last night from East Tennessee to LeBonheur.  We had just arrived home from our own travels from East Tn when I got the phone call.  Kristie, his mother, was in the ambulance with him and they were headed my way.  Without a single thought I got right back in the truck and headed to Memphis.  I met her there and stayed until her family arrived 2 hours later.

Justin has had an acute onset of tumor growth that led to sizable formations in his brain and bleeding there as well.  The family has chosen not to intervene with medicine, as the doctors have told them there is nothing they can do to help him.  He traveled back home tonight to be with his family and friends in his last days.

I am asking you to pray for him and his family right now.  Honestly, I need you to.  I am so angry, hurt, confused, scared....I am finding it hard to put a prayer together.  All I keep saying  is "please God bring them peace."  As I hugged Kristie last night as she sat by Justin's side I thanked God for allowing me to be a part of their lives.  They are an amazing family and I have come to love Justin and Kristie so much.  I hurt for them as only a mom of a child with cancer can.  I want so desperately to make things better for them.  I know I can't and that hurts even more.

Thank you for believing in the power of prayer.  Thank you in advance for your petitions on their behalf.

  10. A friend of mine lost his 6 year old son tonight to osteosarcoma. As I look at my own daughter, I cannot imagine ever having to let her go. Times like these make me long for Heaven where we will never experience these sadnesses again.

  11. I am so sorry for your friends and I know that it is also very hard on you. Hard to watch them go through this fiery trial and and hard to not let your fears take root. I am praying for Justin and his family. I will also lift you up to the Throne of Grace. May God grant you all peace and sweet comfort.

  13. Oh Kate-you did help them by being there. Your presence and friendship ministered to them. I'm praying for all of you to feel Jesus' arms around you. We don't understand but we know God loves us more than we love our children which you know is more than can be described.

  14. Kate, I have prayed for you and your family since I first read your story. I now include in my prayers, all precious children with cancer and their families. I know the hurt of losing a child (my son was 28)...I have experienced the comfort from our loving God...but the pain is the worst a parent can have. I am praying from the depths of my heart for this dear family and my prayers for you will continue each and every day.

  18. "We Are Hungry" by Jeff Deyo

Lord, I want more of You
Living Water, rain down on me
Lord, I need more of You
Living Breath of life, come and fill me up

    We are hungry
    We are hungry
We are hungry for more of You
    We are thirsty, Oh Jesus
We are thirsty for more of You

We lift our holy hands up
    We want to touch You
    We lift our voices higher
And higher and higher to You

  21. I am so sorry for this child and his family. And also you and yours, too. I pray God will give you all strength and peace. It saddens me so much to hear this. My cousin is a nurse at LeBonheur and this is how I found out about sweet Lucy and have followed from close to the beginning. I had posted to the Pray for Lucy Facebook page and wasn't sure if you check that or not. It is a picture of a Relay for Life foot I got and put Lucy's name on. It is hanging at my work and everytime I see it I say a prayer for her. Thought it would make her smile. Lots of love from west TN! =)

  31. Oh Kate,
What a comfort you were to Justin's mother. I can't imagine the fears that arose in you on your way to meet Kristie.
My prayer for you is that Satan will not attack your fears and multiply them but also for Kristie, Justin and their entire family and friends.
You know, having been through several lengthy illnesses, you sometimes don't have the words to pray, but God knows your heart. He will intercede for you.
Know your family and their family are all in our prayers.
