The Post That Needs to Be Read

There is a post that I’ve needed to write.  I’ve sat down to do it several times, but Erik and I just haven’t felt that the time was right.  It’s a very complicated issue but we feel that 1. We owe it to the legions of prayer warriors who are storming heaven for Lucy  2. We need more prayers and 3. Until now, we weren’t sure it mattered because Lucy was so very sick and we didn’t think we were coming home regardless.

Please read this thoroughly and take no more from it than what I am telling you.

Over the last few days we received conflicting opinions about Lucy’s recent medical events.  It has taken a long time for us to process this new information and we still aren’t quite sure what to think about it.  We have spent many hours consulting doctors, trying to make some really big decisions.  In a nutshell, there may possibly be some conflicting results about Lucy’s cancer reoccurrence.  I want to stress POSSIBLY.  I want to be very clear.  Lucy had a positive test from her CSF.  It’s hard to deny that fact. However, while we haven’t been able to rule it out we haven’t confirmed it either.  What has come into question is that there is a chance those cells were distorted by high doses of antibiotics, the infection, or the very high fever that Lucy ran for 2 days.

Please understand that we are being very cautious with this information.  We can’t allow ourselves to get carried away, because there is a positive test out there that will hang over our heads for a while.  The doctors will retest in 6 weeks and then retest again 6 weeks later.

Until then, we are hitting the ground running.  Lucy has made amazing progress the past week.  So much so that we are working with our team of doctors to get Lucy admitted into a children’s inpatient rehabilitation hospital.  Our hope is that Lucy will be able to receive the kind of care that she needed 6 months ago.  The kind of care that will allow her to have a “normal” life.  One free of stomach pains, free of the fear of walking, free of frustrations when she can’t play with her sister and friends.  The kind of life that every 6 year old wants.  The kind of life that every mother and father wants for their child.  Because, even if Lucy has a short time left we want it to be the best quality time we can give her.

We have no idea how long Lucy has on this earth.  It could be weeks, months or YEARS!  What we do know is that Lucy deserves the chance at life.  Erik and I have decided that if 3-4 weeks of rehabilitation will get her back on track for living then it will be worth it.  All the doctors agree that sitting around waiting 6 or 12 weeks on her next cancer screenings would be such an injustice to Lucy...and to our whole family.

Leaving my family behind will be agonizing.  This is not the summer I had planned for my children.  I wanted to badly to make up lost time from last year.  As frustrating as it is, there is no denying that we have been given a GIFT.  We are absolutely convicted that God is leading us in the direction of rehab.  We are going to go for it, making every accommodation possible for our family to remain intact.  More than likely it will be for no more than a month.  We can do this!

I want to say thank you again for the ceaseless prayers.  I feel as if our family is living through a miraculous event. A miracle if even for a few extra weeks or months. There are no other explanations.   We serve an awesome, powerful God.  Someone left a comment a few days ago that we should have had more faith in doctors than God.  This person said that doctors are the only ones with saving powers.  Well, let me be the first to tell you that most every doctor in this hospital had given up.  There was nothing more they could do for us.  (i must add that we have been completely blessed with wonderful, amazing doctors).  My child is talking, walking and full of life today not because of a doctors healing touch.  No, my child has been touched by the merciful hand of God.  She has been blessed.  We have been given a gift.

  3. Soo many prayers and healing thoughts heading your way Lucy and family!! Kate, while it might not be the Summer you had wished for, I know it will be full of wonderful family memories of your intact family and Lucy will make strides in rehabiliation!! God did have his healing hands on Lucy, you are absolutely correct, doctors are only human and can only do what medicine can allow, God does the rest. I am soo happy that Lucy is making such a wonderful turn around. Love her frosting face, and that smile is worth a million dollars!! Hugs to you and your family, and prayers always! God Bless!!

  8. I am still praying for a complete healing from cancer and you are correct - there is not a doctor in this world that can heal the way our God does! Yes - it feels good to trust your doctors and you should - but they are human and they make mistakes as well as lack the power to produce miracles! I am so happy for the smiles on Lucy's face! Praying......

  9. Thank God for His Healing Hand. He gives doctors knowledge, but He is the Great Physician! I have got to go share thus need with my husband and my son Owen. He still prays for Lucy every night! He is 6 also and he sings I will praise you in this storm a lot these days! He heard that on your blog! With continued prayers and Christian Love, Regina, Patrick, and Owen Harper

  10. Awesome! I believe you all have been a part of a miracle.
It is ironic that someone left you a comment like that. As a nurse, I can promise that most doctors and nurses will tell you there is something way beyond science and medicine. As a pediatric nurse, I can tell you we are only in the business of helping people...we are NOT healers. Our trust is always in God's provision.
You truly have been given a gift in the midst of something very difficult. What a reminder of His goodness and grace even in our time grieving and hardship.
    Go Lucy! Go Lucy!!!

  11. Amen Kate. Anything any doctor does is by God's will anyway. Their gifts are God given. I will continue to pray for your precious family and that your needs are met.

  15. Praise God! Prayers for Lucy, for continued healing and successful rehab, for your other two children to feel your love for them even in your absence, strength for you and your husband, and for the cancer test to be positive only because of the antibiotics, infection, or fever.
That person who lost faith and believed only in what the doctors were saying... well, she is only human and sometimes in the worst of times people forget that there are only one set of footprints in the sand. We get tired, frustrated and angry. We lose hope. God is carrying each and every one of you in you family. You are not alone, the doctors are not alone. All of us reading here will also continue along on your journey, praying and rejoicing in each of Lucy's successes.

  20. You are SO right - this is nothing but a miracle! Lucy's smile in the photo above says it all. She is in HIS tender care. We have a loving God who is healing Lucy. I will continue to pray for her healing and her recovery. I am excited for her going to rehab and being able to do the things that 6 year olds want to do!! Praising God with you.

  22. Praying! When I told my daughters to pray last week, they prayed for God to heal Lucy while I prayed to take your family's pain away and to give Lucy comfort in her final days. When I told them Lucy was doing better and that their prayers were being heard and God seemed to be working a miracle in her life, they switched from "heal Lucy" to "Thank you for healing Lucy" and have continued to pray for her each time we bow our heads together. Ah, to have the faith of a child. They don't doubt that God has reached down and touched her with His healing hand. Maybe there is a doubter out there that needs to know that God still works miracles here on earth. And maybe God needed to bring Lucy to where she is just now in order for His name to be made great! Know that it may not be the summer you had expected, but your children are resilient and though it will be difficult not having their mama around, it will be awesome to have their sister home soon... living a normal life :) I am sure that as you pray for wisdom and for God's will to be done, He will give it to you abundantly and will make it "ok" for you, whatever you decide.

  25. Hi Kate,
I can't tell you how amazing it is to see these incredible pictures (her color is looking better & better every day!!) & reports about Lucy! She is one amazing little girl who has touched countless people around the world!! I wanted to tell you about something that happened to me (it is nothing nearly as serious as cancer, but it was healing!). I have had a total of 3 rotator cuff surgeries. The 1st one really wasn't so bad (only a partial tear), the second one was horrible (complete tear with a very comlicated surgery) & took a full year of recovery & PT...I was in a sling for 7 months because of some complications. Then the other shoulder tore & the MRI revealed another complete tear. I was so sad about that because I really didn't want to repeat that again...it was so hard & then trying to take care of my husband & children was incredibly difficult! There was LOTS of praying going on from a lot of family and friends. My husband & mom were shocked when the surgeon came out of the OR after less that an hour...looking a little bewildered. He told them that the rotaor cuff did not have a complete tear...it was healing!! I am a firm believer in the power of prayer & I will never stop praying for complete healing for Lucy...even though my healing was much less serious than what y'all are facing, I do believe God is still in the business of healing!

    Always in my prayers!
    Shay

  26. Praise! Just keep listening to the Lord. We are all being allowed to witness a miracle. Your family is a testimony to what HE is able to do....far greater than anything we can imagine. Hang in there...hug each other tight and trust in HIM.

  27. God is the one, who has brought Lucy, this far. He has given you a miracle, and blessed your family, with more time, with Lucy. Kate, you and your family have been so faithful in your journey, that God will not let you down. Not any of us know how long we have on this earth. I just pray, that whatever is best for Lucy, will happen. I know you are missing out on the other children, but as Ella gets older, she will understand, why you had to be gone, so much. Ella can see, from your actions, of how much you and Eric love your family. We serve a good God, and He will never lead you in the wrong direction. This has changed even me, in the way I pray, and my faith. I have found myself, in question of my own faith, after seeing, what has happened to Lucy. I will continue to pray, for God's will be done, not ours. Bless all of you.

  28. I don't know about the healing powers of doctors because I was so busy praying for a miracle. I do trust doctors but only to a limited degree. I know too many friends who are on all kinds of medications who could better be served by changes in their diet. It is doctors who prescribe the medications. The movie Forks Over Knives changed what I eat and I feel 100% better than I have in years. My dentist recommended the movie because of the science presented, not a doctor. So, I am more inclined to pray and hope for miracles and Lucy certainly represents one.

Where is the inpatient rehab center? It sounds like you and Lucy would live there. Will Erik and the kids get to see Lucy during this time? Ella has such a positive effect on Lucy.

I really hope you received a false negative diagnosis and Lucy's cancer is not back. I will continue to pray and believe in miracles.

  29. My children and I pray for Lucy and your family daily. They are witnessing the power of prayer, even when doctors throw their hands up and don't have answers. The Great Physician, our Father and King WANTS to show Himself mighty - in Lucy's life, in her family's lives, through answered prayer, We are praying for you and believing for you, singing for you, and trusting God to hold you close.

  30. the Lords will has been done! Incredible! Lucy has received a miracle! I can't believe what I just read, what an awesome God we serve. I hope and pray x1 million prayers that her next set of tests will come back clear and that she can get the rehab she so desperately needs. Love and hugs.

  31. And...we are BLESSED to know Lucy & your whole family! I know you are disappointed for having to do rehab instead of doing fun summer stuff but I agree with yourself and Erik when you said rehab would be benefical for Lucy. What other choice do you have when that's the case?! Not much in my humble opinion.

I also believe God played a MASSIVE Role in Lucy's recovery. I mean, there isn't really any other answer now is there?! I will continue to pray for Lucy as will my family and my children's school since they all went to school & asked their teachers & peers to pray for your whole family....especially, BEAUTIFUL Lucy!!!

Thank you for your update and for your honesty!!! I pray her test will come back negative for Cancer.

I think of you often Kate...and I just mailed off a little treat for Lucy!! I hope it makes her smile and helps her remember we're not too far away and we think of her and pray for her every single day!!

    God Bless!

  33. I check in on Lucy once a day so that my prayers can be more specifically focused on your needs. I am sorry that someone would insensitively write that docs are the only ones with healing powers. Someone who would write that, given what you are facing, is someone struggling with his or her own faith and is uncomfortable with yours.

I continue to read your blog because of your faith. There is SO much faith to be taught from Lucy's struggle and the way that your family has reacted to it. No one expects perfection or endless faith from you. You have all of us bolstering you when your faith is tired. What I love most about your writing is that, despite your exhaustion and sometimes deep sadness, you are REAL. You are a mother and father going through the unimaginable. I love your authenticity and know that it is helping so many other moms and dads who are fighting alongside you.
I know that Jesus has walked Lucy's lonesome valley with her (and with all of you) and will continue to hold her in the palm of His hand as your journey continues.
I am so excited for you that you're feeling called to rehab. This step in Lucy's life brings new meaning to the phrase, "GO LUCY GO!" Many, many blessings and ceassless prayers to you from Jill in Missouri. Peace be with you.

  39. You are so right--There is such power in prayer and God's love for us. I will not stop praying for little Lucy. I will pray that the Doctors find answers and treatment for her. I will pray for your whole family to have as little disruption as possible in your lives, and that Ella and Jack will have good times this summer--they need and deserve their childhood too. I will pray for Lucy to be free of this terrible disease soon and to be a child again with no suffering. I will pray hard and also thank our Lord in Heaven for all he has done for little Lucy, and will continue to do. I will pray for good and joyful blessings for each of you.....

  40. Kate, every time I read about Lucy I believe we truly are seeing a miracle. I keep praying to God to use Lucy to show everyone how miracles can happen through the power of prayer. In this case I truly hope that the test come back negative and I will keep asking the Man above to continue to heal Lucy and let her lead a full life. So so happy to keep hearing about her progress.
Don't beat yourself up about making the decision to get Lucy in rehab. A month away can mean a lifetime of difference for her. I see such a lively girl in all of these recent posts with a smile in her eyes and on her lips. She's a fighter and I believe God will continue to surprise us with his miracles. You have such a close loving family and as you said You Can Do It!!

We will keep those prayers coming!!

    GO LUCY GO!!

  41. You only need to look at the pictures of Lucy from just a few days ago in your arms to the pictures now to see that God alone had His hand over her precious life! She looks so vibrant and happy, and my heart is full of hope for her! Praying continually...

  42. Wow, how could someone attack someone for their belief in God while they are going through something as strong as what your family is going through? You said it perfect, in my opinion. Doctors are wonderful and can help to a degree, but our Heavenly Father is the one who can do what Doctors can not do. Just the fact that Lucy is doing as well as she is today, compared to a week ago, is a beautiful blessing!!! Continued prayers are headed your way, and thank you for sharing your faith with the rest of us!

  43. Kate,i think yall are making the right decision by moving foward.Thats a Great positive thing to do! That means you have Faith...Faith that Lucys going to make a full recovery! I pray and believe that those test are going to be clear and she will live a long prosperous life!!!

  46. Well, about that comment I made a few posts back.....The one where I said that I needed a miracle to happen to strengthen my faith, to strengthen the faith of all of your followers, to use Lucy's illness as a true testimony of what having faith can mean, to have all of these people that are following your story to see this miracle happen.....It's about to come true. That smile on that face is not the smile that a child dying of cancer has. A mistake? A false positive? So close to death with such a huge rebound? I'm convinced that God is using Lucy. And He chose her because He knew that no one else could handle this type of torment and still remain strong and faithful. This suffering is not in vain. I think you and Lucy both have saved many lives though your example of faith. And I can't wait to read your post where you tell us all that "IT WAS A FALSE POSITIVE - THERE IS NO CANCER!!!. Wait 6 weeks? That just gives you more time to have more blog followers. More people to see the miracle that is going to happen. More people saved. I really think it's His plan.

  50. His mercies are new every morning! I'm not sure what pediatric rehab facilities Memphis patients are usually referred to, but Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's Comprehensive Inpatient Rehab Unit definitely serves patients all over the southeast. In addition, the hospital has a well-renowned cancer and neurosciences center. I'm sure that your hospital will help get you where you need to go, but I just thought I'd throw this out there in case you needed more options!

  55. Bless your family, Kate. Our family lost a dear daughter, cousin, niece, aunt, and sister last November to Glioblastoma. She was 41. It was almost a year between the time she was diagnosed until she finally passed, peacefully. We had a wonderful year with her, even amid watching her struggle, decline, improve, and fight, over and over and over again.

May each day with Lucy be full of love, for it's truly the only day that matters. Be present to experience the love she is showing you, just as she is, no doubt, ever present to the endless love that you show her.

  56. AMEN! God has made it very clear to me many times in my life that He can do anything. Tonight at a bible study I attended we discussed how God uses hard and difficult situations to show His strength and power. That good can come from sad times and that He could and still can perform all kinds of miracles. Lucy is such a miracle. Even through the pain and suffering she and your family have gone through, He has showed His unfailing mercy and love. I will continue to pray for Lucy and your family as you take this next step in your journey. I know it will be hard but I have faith God will see you through it.

  60. PRAISE THE LORD!!!!!
I don't think I have ever commented before but your family and your precious baby girl have been on my mind so much lately. I can't stop thinking about you all. We have three children about the same ages as your three. My husband and I have been lifting you up before the Lord, begging God to spare Lucy's life. It was absolutely heart wrenching to see those photos of you holding her outside the other day and the look on your face. I was so burdened for you and what you were going through watching her like that. I couldn't stop crying. But I didn't just cry, I cried out to God. And He has heard our prayers!!! THANK YOU JESUS!!!

Thank you so much for keeping us updated when you can. I check several times a day to see if there are any changes. I was overcome with joy the other day when I saw the picture of Lucy smiling in the hospital bed! I turned to my husband and said " LOOK AT LUCY!!!!" I am thanking God! She has so much life left in her! You can see it in her face.

Throughout the day when my children are asking me to "Watch this Mommy" or " Mommy, can you help me?" or any of the things that can become tiring to do over and over again times three....I think...how much would Lucy's mom give to be able to watch her do those things ?or come and help her with something simple? I have a whole new appreciation and love for my children because of you and your little girl! I am really trying hard to love my kids the best that I can and delight in them. I ask God to help me not take for granted the children he has blessed me with.

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful family and the journey you are on with all of us. I am blessed to "know" you ;o).

I will continue praying for Lucy, you and your family! Love to you all!

    Your sister in Christ,

  62. I've been reading your blog and praying for all of you for a while now, but I haven't commented until now. One of my dearest friends was diagnosed with very advanced ovarian cancer and told she wouldn't live more than a month. We had 11 more years with her after that prognosis. The doctors had no answers for her healing and told her she must pray to a very powerful God. Our Lord DOES heal. I'll continue to pray for healing for Lucy and your family, and continue to watch for those miracles!

  63. Thanks for the update. Glad that you can be proactive with Lucy's recovery while you wait for the tests to be done. Still praying for Lucy's healing but PRAISE GOD that you are living a miracle right now! Will continue to pray for Lucy and your entire family...always!

  71. I read! I heard! I believe! I pray for the people who just can't see it - the miracle you talk about. So sad to live in a world where the eyes are blinded by only what is tangible. I was once that person and I get it. I understand why they feel that way. It is hard to understand. But we don't have to understand. Faith cannot be understood. It simply is. Thank you one again for sharing your thoughts, your frustrations and your journey. We learn through others. May you feel God's arms wrapped around you with the HOPE that you have been given.

  72. Our GOD is an AWESOME GOD!! I find myself thinking about and praying for Lucy and your family several times a day. I continue to be inspired by your strength, courage, faith and love. God truly provides when we need HIM most and I see evidence of that everytime I read your blog. Keep fighting and we'll keep praying!!

(I am also praying for the person who questioned your faith in the ULTIMATE HEALER!! Sometimes our needs are not as obvious as Lucy's, but are very real, none the less...............I pray our LOVING GOD heals that person as well!!)

  74. Tonight's post was amazing. I've been telling my husband the past few days that I have a feeling that Lucy's cancer diagnosis was going to turn out to be erroneous OR that once the infection has cleared they would be able to treat the cancer again. While I understand that the answer is not clear today, I am just so excited over the possibilities and can't wait for six weeks to pass for another test! I will be praying specifically for rehab. I will be praying that although your family may not be together physically, you will be together emotionally. What a path you've walked these past few weeks. How awesome God is. I thank God every day for the prayer warriors. I know the Throne has been stormed with prayers of faithful believers. I also know that many of us have been praying for the medical team caring for Lucy. It saddens me that you received a comment stating your faith should be in the Doctors more than God. This clearly came from a person who's hurting. Thank you again for sharing your family's circumstances with us. I fully believe that Lucy's story is providing hope to many other families in this same situation. I will continue to pray. God is good!

  75. What a difference a week makes!!!!! You all may want to check into Healthsouth In Midtown. THey take children, though is ia primarily an adult facility. They do have a small pediatric program and some gifted nero therapists there. You could be close to St Jude, and all of your doctors and your family. Just a thought worth checking into. She might be the only child there though they do get kids from time to time. The closeness to home may make it worth it.

None of us know how long we have here on Earth. Only God does. And as a parent of a child with multiple disabilities, I completely understand any parent wanting to help their child live a life of quality. Whatever and however that may be. We will keep praying for you all. God Bless. And thank you so much for taking the time to update. We keep checking in waiting for each update.

  80. God is shepherding so many, many people through Lucy and her beautiful smile.. she surely is working to comfort everyone who is so worried about her. God has provided your family the wonderful doctors and care givers who have gotten Lucy and your family to this point. And now He is guiding you in these decisions, the guidance for which I'm sure you have fervently prayed to Him. Your faith is a cross held high, and you are bearing it with courage and wisdom and determination. And we all see it, and we are in awe, and we are moved and inspired to emulate your faith. Though your summer plans are not turning out the way you had hoped, this may turn out to be the best summer of your lives. And Jack's and Ella's lives are being enriched, though the enrichment may smack of the stinky compost in the garden... the beatiful results of such enrichment in the garden is vibrant, tasty, nutritious, delicious fruits and vegetables. The stinky, rotten stuff that Lucy is going through, and the stinky rotten chink in your summer plans, just may produce results that will be joyous and beautiful beyond your wildest dreams. God's all up in your business, and that is where He shall remain. I remember a bumper sticker... "Let go and let God." Prayers flying heavenward from my heart, though you have no idea who I am... just know that I'm a mother and a grandmother, and I've learned through the years that it is impossible to bring children through their lives without God in every thing you do. God bless you!

  81. I too was praying for mercy for Lucy & your family last week when I should have been praying for healing. Even as a Christian, I've always wondered why God doesn't perform more visible miracles like he did in the Bible. I find myself thinking, "well sure he believed....God talked to him from a burning bush!" Or, "well, of course people believed...Jesus raised the man from the dead with lots of witnesses!"

And then these past 10 days with Lucy have happened. And regardless of what the tests show in 6-12 weeks, I am convinced that God has worked a miracle here. One that is not hard to miss....a very visible miracle just like in the days of the Bible. Your girl was so close to death and to see her face so full of LIFE now ~ I don't know how anyone can see this and not see God's miraculous work! She was on strong antibiotics & wasn't getting any better. The prognosis you shared with us kept getting more & more grim. And now we see this complete turnaround. I know the doctor's were doing all they could, but there's no doubt that this was healing from THE Great Physician. Blessed be the name of the Lord!!

Go, Lucy, Go!! This summer will be different than what you had planned a month ago....but also very much different than what you had planned a week ago and we are all so grateful to God for that!!

  82. I admire you for your faith. I'm sorry your family has to experience this, but I know there is His hand guiding you through it all. Never let go of your faith! My prayers will continue for you, your kiddos, husband, and loved ones. So glad that Miss Lucy is defying the odds and fulfilling her divine mission- whatever that may ultimately be. 87. I believe that Lucy is a miracle. I believe that the positive test was positive because the cancer had returned. I also believe that God placed his hand on her, and that the test in several weeks may well reveal that she is cancer free. I believe that our God is a God who's ways are not are ways, but rather are so much higher than out ways. I believe that our world is broken--that cancer was not and is not God's plan for your family. But I also believe that God will take whatever we give him and hold it in his hands and redeem it for his glory. The demon of cancer cannot stop our God from declaring victory, and Lucy bears witness to this amazing truth. The agony you are all enduring is agony indeed, but I honestly believe you aren't suffering in vain--God is redeeming this world, and you are proof of that.

I think you are abolutely right in your decision to rehabilitate Lucy before the extra tests and that your other little children will not see a lost summer, but the joy of seeing their sister enjoying a better quality of life and the hope of possibilities that brings. It will teach them positivity and tenacity and just how much love there is within your family. Lily. xxx

  107. I read this last week in the Chron. Bible and thought of you and was so thankful that you and Erik seek the Lord for Lucy's healing as well as modern medicine. Here's the verse: "Though his (Asa's) was severe, even in his illness he did NOT seek help from the LORD, but only from the physicians. Then in the 44st year of his reign Asa died and rested with his fathers." 2 Chronicles 16:12-13 God uses doctors, but He holds the power to heal and we hold the power to pray. Last Tuesday night a group of us gathered to pray and there was power in that. Tonight, we will meet as a community to hear Iva May and we will have a praise service and prayer for Lucy! Worthy is God to be praised and sweet Lucy needs us to KEEP on praying! We love you!

  112. Praise GOD for this miracle that he has chosen to give your family! Continued prayers for Lucy during rehab and for Ella and Jack as they adjust...AND for you and Erik as you adjust!

I would just like to say this... at 15 months old, my nephew fell in the babysitters pool (complete accident as he had climbed the chain link fence).. anyway, once he made it to Toledo Children's Hospital the doctor's told my sister that she needed to plan on he was going to make it. There is no way after being underwater for what they estimated to be at least 5 minutes to more than 10 that he would make it. He had gone into full cardiac arrest and the dr's had many children come in who had fallen in much more shallow water for a much shorter time and they didn't make it. The dr's had given up and told the family that we needed to make plans that he would never come out of the coma he was in... WELL, 11 days later, he came out of the coma and had absolutely NO brain damage. It was a complete MIRACLE! Even the dr's and nurses had writen MIRACLE at the top of his chart!!! That little boy is 9 years old today and he is as normal as a 9 year old boy can be! All praise and glory to the Father!

Don't give up hope... We certainly won't!!!!

  113. Yes, we need doctors and they have their place, and they are a wealth of information, we must always remember that as Christians, we put our ultimate trust in The Great Physician, the One who made us the One who knows us best. Lucy is in the best hands - in the hospital but more importantly she is God's hands. God bless you - the effectual fervent prayers of the righteous avails MUCH!

During the midst of this our forty year old son was diagonsed with lung cancer. His Christian friends laid hands on him and prayed. He said a heat went through him. The biopsy next day revealed no cancer. We will continue to pray if it can be his will that Lucy can live and serve him.

  119. WOW! Praise God! I will be praying that the CSF test was either positive due to the antibiotics or because God answered all of our prayers for your sweet faithful family. I will also pray that you are able to get her into rehab she so desperately needs. My mind can't help but wander to the person who had the gall to make the harsh statement about Lucy's Make-A-Wish trip.... I will pray for them too - if they are following you still, there must be lots of guilt from that. I hope they reach out and apologize and release that guilt. I will also pray for your family while you are away. I am so sorry you are missing another summer with Ella and Jack (and of course your husband and a "normal kid" summer for Lucy.

This is all God - God is the one who has blessed all doctors with the power to heal and save. It does not matter if the doctors "believe" in Him.

Kate, today I was reading in Matthew about the man who came to Jesus asking for help for his servant who was sick and suffering. The man was so faithful and trusting and this was Jesus's reply, "I tell you the truth, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith...Go! It will be done just as you believed it would." (Matthew 8: 5-13) God is no less faithful and powerful now than he was then. He can do things beyond what we could have only dreamed and beyond what the world and doctors say is possible. Keep the truth that God is able and God is just in the forefront of your thoughts. Everyday with sweet Lucy is a gift. Regardless of the results of any test, God remains in control of her situation. Don't let doctors or tests dictate how your family or Lucy views this situation. You are a blessing and a testimony to so many people who may or may not know Christ. It is a tough situation to be placed in, but God must think you and Erik are pretty capable, faithful followers. We only see a snapshot of what is going on, God knows the bigger picture. Just know that God is using Lucy and your family to change people and testify to God's power and grace through this situation. You should be so proud of your little girl! She is changing people's lives and hearts.

  128. When I first was saved (came out of the new age movement, and "recreational drug use" I almost died, and would be dead or a vegetable if Jesus didn't intervene) I had met a family who had 8 children. Their oldest child would tear up the high desert in So. Calif. on his dirt bike at 19 years old. They told me a story. When he was about 3 or 4 years old he got very sick so he was taken to the hospital. There they were told that he had leukemia and that he needed to go on intensive treatment right away. Mom and dad decided they didn't want any of that. They decided they would take their chances with God instead. They prayed. The hospital staff took more tests, and the tests came back negative this time. They said "there must be a mistake" and told mom and dad they would need to do some exploratory surgery. They said "Oh no you don't" and left the hospital "AMA" (against medical advice). They said "Jesus healed our son but they wouldn't believe it so they wanted to cut him open, but we believed the miracle, and here he still is today".

I believe there are times when the Lord does test us like He tested Abraham with Isaac. I'm not sure why.... but He certainly does know why He is doing what He is doing, and none of us deserve anything. Every day is a gift of life to each of us here on earth that we had no way of earning. I guess sometimes it helps if we get a little reminder that He is there, and He can do all things, and to cherish every moment we have.

And when it is time to leave this place, we will have learned to fully trust that God is there, and everything is perfect and ok. :)

My wife has believed since Lucy's recent illness that something is not accurate about her recent test. No, we're not reading more into your post than we should. You need to do what's best for Lucy. You are showing her how to cope with bad situations.. you're showing her humility by asking for prayers; giving her hope by not giving up by putting her into rehab, showing her she's not alone by opening up all of this to the family of God that she hasn't personally met.
We take one day at a time.. that's all God asks of us. He wants us to make the most of Today. He's given you one tremendous TODAY.. and you're using it to the best of your ability.. Godspeed you to rehab.. on the wings of the prayers we're sending up..

  142. So glad to hear that there may be another cause for the positive test! Praying that that will indeed be the case. That would be such wonderful news!! As for the person who commented about doctors being the only ones with saving powers...how could anyone look at the photos of you holding Lucy a few days ago, and read about how sick she was, and then compare them to the photo above without believing in God's healing power? And to see how much she has improved when doctors said there was no hope...well, I don't see how anyone could call that anything less than an ABSOLUTE MIRACLE!! I rarely comment, but I check on here every day for new updates, and I thank you for keeping us all posted on new developments in Lucy's fight. Love and prayers continuing to come your way!!!!

  145. God holds the power. God gives the knowledge and strenght to the doctors. He makes them amazing. He is healing Lucy in front of all of our eyes. He is showing what he can do with our prayers.
I printed some pictures of Lucy healthy, then sick, then very sick and then ones from your more recent posts where she's showing life in her eyes again. I've printed dozens of these flyers with her information on them and passed them on to friends and family and co-workers. Just sharing Lucy's story so that people are at least aware of her and her fight. Some of these people may not be praying people, but they are amazed at what they can see. God is working his magic!
We will never stop thinking of Lucy, praying for Lucy and learning through Lucy. My three children and I talk about Lucy everyday. They always want to check your blog and see Lucy. Even my 2 year old named Lucy, also loves seeing your Lucy. Your strength is amazing, your family is so supportive to jump in and help out however you need it. 147. Oh Kate. This is tremendous. You ARE doing the right thing. You said it perfectly, "Because, even if Lucy has a short time left we want it to be the best quality time we can give her." You are RIGHT! Even if the cancer IS back, her time here is much better spent working to make life better than sitting around waiting. LIVE LIVE LIVE!!! And like so many of your other followers, we believe God's hand is more than evident in this turn of events. BELIEVE BELIEVE BELIEVE!

  148. Oh Kate! I am trying so hard not to tear up here at my work desk! Yes, I think you guys are doing the right thing by GOING FOR IT! May I ask-is it Shepard's that you will be going to? I have heard WONDERFUL things about that place. Lucy DESERVES this chance and even IF her cancer has returned, if they can make her stronger to where she can enjoy life while she is here, then that would be wonderful! I (and I am sure all of your blog family) will NEVER stop praying for your Lulu. We will pray that she continues to gain strength and stamina, that her 6 & 12 week tests come up clear, and that she gets to live a long, wonderful life. Much love, hugs, and prayers to ALL of you. ♥

  152. GO LUCY GO! Praying for clarity on Lucy's positive test...for you, your entire family and for the doctors working so hard to help make her healthy and happy. Thank you for sharing your miracle with all of us...it gives hope to what feel sometimes like hopeless situations.

Keep fighting, Lucy! We will keep praying for God's working hand in your life and for full and complete healing here with your family and for a life you deserve....full of love, hope, happiness, joy and excitement as you get stronger everyday. We all look forward to years of updates on wonderful, wonderful you!

To the person who so boldly claims you should have had more faith in your doctors...so be it. Let them believe what they believe without worry by you. Focus on the wonderful, miraculous, power of prayer and healing being exhibited by Lucy that no doctor can explain. Have faith even in the face of the faithless and find strength in numbers holding you up in prayer when you may not be able to do it yourself.

Hugs to you all and good luck in all of your upcoming endeavors! Push hard Lucy! We are all pulling for you!

    I will keep praying...

  157. Praise the Lord, God is Good all the time. This is truly a miracle and you have been blessed by God. You know I have heard that if you don't believe that God has a sense of humor, make plans, He laughs because He already has the plans laid out and our plans aren't fulfilled, but His are always better than anything we could imagine. Love and prayers to all of you.

  163. Praise God for this miracle, and I will continue my prayers for Lucy and her family as she enters rehab. Tears flowed from my eyes as I read this. I hesitate to say that Lucy is lucky, because of the cards she has been dealt, but she is absolutely lucky to have such a strong Christian family surrounding her. Thank you for sharing your story and please remember that there are so many behind you in prayer.

  172. Thank you SO MUCH for this update. I have been wondering about this very issue, but too afraid to ask.

To the poster who has more faith in doctors than in the one and only GOD. I am a nurse. I ASSURE YOU that Doctors have knowledge about a small area, but GOD has the wisdom and power that no Dr. ever could. I worked at a cancer clinic. The doctor prayed to the same God that I do. This doctor is one of the TOP doctors in our area. The doctor has lost MANY patients because there wasn't any kind of earthly medicine or power to heal them. His plan for each of his patients is life, but he has no true control.

If Doctors have the only saving power, then WHY did the doctor that was in his 40's die in a car accident and was taken to the very hospital where he worked? I watched as his lifeless body was rolled by on the gurney. Two of his children witnessed him dying. He left 3 young children and his wife behind. I assure you that is not the road he had planned. God had HIS plan.

GOD has Lucy's plan. God's plan is for HIS glory.

Praying for more miracles during rehab. Praying that the miracle is complete and the cancer is completely GONE, GOne, gone.

I will praise God's name and shout it from the rooftops. I can't wait to share this news with my Sunday School class. I love it when prayers turn into praises.

I have a song for anyone interested. It is by Eternity Focus and is called "Awe of the King".

Much love to all of you....my prayers will never cease! The Lord is the best Dr. there is :)

  187. sounds like we need to pray for the doubting thomas who said doctors had more power than God...praying every day with faith bigger than a mustard seed that God will heal Lucy. All he has to do is speak it or touch her and it will be done!

  191. The doctors are wonderful. They do everything humanly possible to help their patients. God guides the doctors and gives them strength and knowledge. I couldn't do their jobs. I would spend all my time crying and praying. God is on their shoulders guiding them. God is the ONLY Healer, Savior!
Lucy is a fighter, a true inspiration. Prayers for her healing daily. God Bless you and your family.
Some people have not let themselves BELIEVE in God. They are missing out. Don't let their comments bother you. We are praying for them as well. Everyone needs to know God. He is the MOST powerful and Loving of anyone you will every meet. You may not understand everything, but there is a reason for it. Just Trust in the Lord, you will be amazed!! What more proof do you need than Miss Lucy Krull and Her Amazing Family???

  192. We worship the great Physician!! Praise the Lord for what He has done in Lucy's life. I, too, have a child that is doing things doctors, wonderful, fabulous doctors, told us she would never do. We will keep praying for your sweet Lucy and will continue to PRAISE GOD for all He has done in her life!!

  193. Kate, take this blessing and go with it. Nothing is over until God say it is. None of us knows the ways of God but at times we try to step in His way. He just has to give us a nudge to move out of His way and I believe this is what is happening here. This is between Him and Lucy and all He ask of us is to believe. I know it is hard being a parent going through all that you have gone through but so does God. He will never leave or forsake you that is His promise and sometimes we just have to claim it and hang on. I have to admit my prayers for many days has been for no suffering and a gentle goodbye for Lucy. Duh me! I know the healing powers of God and those 40 stripes Jesus bore wasn't in vain. They were for the healing of Lucy, me and anyone who believes. I believe and I claim them for Lucy!!

  194. GO LUCY GO!!! Praying hard for Lucy and your whole family. Your story is amazing and daily makes me stand amazed before our God.

  197. Believing from Denver, COJune 19, 2012 at 10:32 AM

I have struggled lovingly with God over the past few weeks - praising Him, questioning Him, doubting Him, pleading with Him, then back to praising Him on behalf of Lucy. He has used your journey to reinforce five very important truths for me -
    1) God is and always will be a miracle-working God
    2) He is ever so close, speaking and listening
    3) Prayer in the name of Jesus is powerful
    4) God always, always, always takes what the enemy meant for harm and uses it for good
    5) Indescribable peace comes (and God shines more brightly) when we "let go & let God."
There is no doubt in my heart that Lucy is being healed as a result of prayer and that many will come to know Him more intimately through the miracle that He is unfolding before our eyes. I am praying and believing that test will come back negative in 6 weeks.
Kate, I am so proud of you. Relinquishing control and trusting God, especially with the people that are most precious to us, is one of the most challenging aspects of the journey of faith. I can feel your strength, peace, and trust. I can feel you turning your summer plans, your hopes and dreams for your beautiful child, and your day-to-day steps over to Him. As a fellow planner/detail freak, I know how hard it is to fully lay a burden down... You have taken your fear and longing for control, your greatest burden, and placed it at the feet of Jesus. God is not only doing an amazing work with Lucy, He is doing something really special in your heart.
Praying that God will continue to pour out blessings in the midst of these trials and that you will see His hand and hear His voice clearly as Lucy recovers over the next 6 weeks. To Him be the Glory!
