Thursday Randomness

I am sick.  I hate allergies.  I love farmers, but I hate harvest time.  I love Prednisone.  I hate a sinus headache.  This is the corn field that is right behind our house:

Actually, our entire house and neighborhood is surrounded by a giant cornfield.  They cut corn this past weekend and since we have not had rain for weeks, lets just say that everyone in town is sick.  Seriously, our neighbors across the road and the neighbors behind our house all went to the Allergist this week with their kids.  My heart aches for those that have been affected by the hurricane, but I do pray we get a tiny bit of moisture here.  A good rain is just what all our sinuses need!

Today, Lucy came home early from school.  When she woke up I knew it was not going to be a great day.  Allergies.  Jack was so happy to have her home today.

And this little fellow must be watching the farmers because he has been obsessed with tractors lately.  Here he shows his friend Tip how to steer...

And here he practices driving Sam Harris's John Deere...

On a totally different topic...I bought this Zebra chair 2 months before Lucy got sick in 2011.  My plan was to create a seating area in my kitchen where the girls could cuddle up and read a book or do homework.  Up until this week there has been this random chair in my kitchen that was very uninviting.  Today I found this vintage yellow table and my seating area is finally starting to come together.  It's a small accomplishment but a project I have been anxious to complete for a while now.  I got it at a new antique store on our town's square.  I love our town's square.  It is chock full of quaint stores, tea rooms, a pottery studio, and a great coffee shop.  If you live in the area, I highly recommend coming for a visit.  While you are walking around you can enjoy the music that is piped in through speakers around the court house.  How fun!

Jack thinks my new table is a seat just for him.  He even went to get his Memphis blanket so he could snuggle and watch Ella study!  Check out my messy counter.  Wires from the new cable upgrade that haven't been hidden yet, crock pot from dinner (roast), picture frame that Jack moved so that he could have a seat and a box of papers and bills that need to be filed/paid.

Praying for a better day tomorrow.  Lucy started more medicine today, so maybe she can feel well enough to go to school.  We were on an 8 day streak!

Good night!

  5. I do hope you all feel better soon and there will be some rain in your area. It's nasty living in dust and dirt, especially after a harvest.

    Sweet snuggle time!! Sleep well.

  6. oh my goodness....melt.my.heart. I love love love that last picture. I do hope one day I have two little girls that can be such dear sisters to each other as your girls are. Tell Ella she has inspired so many of your readers with her display of such an amazing heart of Christ to be such a loving big sister and daughter. And tell her Melrose in Wisconsin is praying for her tonight as she too deals with the trials of the past many months. Christ keep you all.

  8. I'm in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and if you get even a touch of the rain we had, everything will get better soon. I'm happy your family seems to be doing well, despite the allergies!

  10. Oh, no! So sorry you all are so allergetic :( Hoping some rain comes your way very soon. Sweet pictures of your kiddos, as always! I hope this is a welcome comment and that it is received as food for thought out of concern for your family, and nothing else. Corn fields are notorious for heavy pesticide use and those who live close to conventional corn fields are at risk for ground well contamination (so water becomes toxic) as well as surface contamination (yard, climbing toys, cars, etc). I only bring this up because I have followed your sweet girl's journey for some time now and she is in our nightly prayers -- we have been touched by medulloblastoma from a dear family friend's son and they also lived by corn fields in the midwest. His mom has always wondered if the proximity to heavy pesticide use was coincidence or had some role in her son's illness. They would run inside during the sprays, but everything would be coated and there was little they could do about their well water so they have since moved. Just food for thought. If you are interested, you can google the relationship and learn about cancer clusters in farming communities. I just had to mention it, knowing my friend's experience years ago when she and her family lived next to corn fields. Perhaps it is an organic and non-GMO corn field and none of this is even a potential issue! God Bless and our prayers are with Lucy!!

  11. I also live right in the middle of corn fields and the harvesting is killing my allergies right now!

I love your organization skills - i too and OC - refuse to call it a disorder because it is just the way things should be ! ha!

Continuing to pray for Lucy and appreciate the prayers for my sister Cari - she finally begins chemo on Tuesday. Believing for a miracle!

  13. I agree....this is a connection worth researching for the health of all, especially young children and pregnant mothers. Apparently a fetus inutero is the most susceptible.
