Family Tree

This post is one that is totally for me and posterity.  Several years ago I scanned a bunch of old family pictures and recently found them on my hard drive.

This is where I came from.  This is where my children came from.  My family isn't perfect, but I am so blessed to be part of it.  I am grateful for my heritage and so thankful for the Christian ancestry that my family shares.

My father's parents.  This is my grandfather with cancer, the one that is always loving on Lucy.  He worked 2 jobs until he was almost 40 to support his family.  He is the epitome of success from hard work.  My grandmother is so pretty in this picture.  The toll of raising 4 boys and building a family business from the ground up doesn't show in her eyes yet.  This precious woman sacrificed so much for her family.

My grandmother is sick right now.  She is having a heart cath Thursday and I'll admit that I'm worried about her. Please keep her in your prayers.

My mother around 2 years old.

Oh my goodness.  Isn't my grandmother beautiful?  This is a picture of my mother's parents.  Jack was named after her father,  E. Keller.  I never met my grandfather and my grandmother died right after I graduated from undergrad. I have many fond memories of my grandmother and miss her so much.

This is a picture of my Daddy.  Mr. Everything in high school.  I just love him!

 Another picture of my grandfather.

Wow!  My mother's high school senior picture.  She is a knock out.

So, there you have it.  This is my family, or at least part of it.  I wish I had pictures of Erik's parents.  One day when we are visiting, I am going to scan as many as I can.  Just like these.  I want my children to know about their past.  I want them to understand that their heritage is very rich in love and faith.

Has anyone ever researched their family tree?  If so, did you use an online service?  I sure would love to do that one day!

  1. How lucky you are to have these great old photos! They are wonderful! I started working on my family tree before I went to university!! I started up again last summer using an online service. Since all my family is British, the service (Ancestry.co.uk) has been nothing short of amazing to help me work out my tree. With the records, including all the census, I have been able to really get a picture of my extended family!! I knew practically nothing. My tree now has about 2000 members on it. I spend time practically every day on it. Love it!!

  2. I love family photos and researching my family tree. I have worked on both my husbands and mine. I have used ancestry.com for all of my online research. It really is as simple as the commercial makes it out to be. With just a few names and dates you can really find a lot of information.

  8. I love that picture of your grandfather in the Army Air Corps. I have one just like it of my grandfather, and even have the patch that is from the shoulder of his uniform.

Family pictures are just the best.

  11. My name is Joy and I just wanted you to know that my 19 month old got to spend time on the Neuro floor at LeBonheur for 2 days. When I walked into room 709, I saw the pic of Lucy on the little fridge. It brought me comfort to know somebody I kept up with had been there. I have been keeping up with your blog since you found out. I just wanted to thank you for ALL you do for LeBonheur and for your family.

  12. What a beautiful family! My sister is very into the family tree stuff and uses wwwancestry.com. I believe she has a couple of other sources, too, but truthfully, when she starts talking about it my mind starts to wander.

  13. You should try www.ancestry.com. There is a charge but it is worth it. Be careful, it's addictive.

  14. Your mom's parents look like they could be Hollywood movie stars in that photo! Your grandfather is so handsome (I got kind of a Mad Men vibe from him!) and your grandmother is a beauty.
