Sleepless

Last night was bad.  Around 11:00pm Lucy spiked a fever.  Erik went on to bed (he was on morning duty) and I sat on the potty chair by her bedside until 1:00am until her 104.3 fever came down.  I think I went to bed, I don't remember.  I might have just slept on the potty chair.  I just know that I woke up at 6am in my own bed.  She shook with chills for what seemed like an eternity and her breathing was so erratic.  There was no way I could sleep with her in that shape.  The docs started her on Vancomycin and gave her some Tylenol and she began to settle down.

This morning she spiked another low temp.  She had an EKG early this morning, which is mandatory before they start Cycloposphamide on days 2 and 3.  She screamed through all of that (she hates those sticky probes) and then passed out asleep.  I know she has to be exhausted.  She slept so restlessly, we woke her every 2 hours to pee and then was woken up to an EKG.  Just now she had to have a nasal rinse to culture for an infection in her sinus cavity.  She has had some colored mucus, so it was a mandatory test.  She was so big and brave, but it really scared her.  Scared me, too.
I'm happy to see her resting right now, watching a little TV.  Our goal is to make it through this last day of chemo without any major hiccups.  If the fever doesn't subside, there is no way we will get to leave on Friday.  That would be so disappointing for all of us.

Praying for a much better day today.

  2. Dear Lord, Please wrap your arms around this little angel. I know that you love your little children and you are the greatest physcian of all. Dear Lord, 6 years ago I was facing a similar battle with my daughter and you healed her. Please do the same for this precious angel. Please be with this family and provide them with comfort and a peace beyond all understanding. In your sweet name I pray. Amen!

I pray for you often and I know God has great things in store for you and your family ... especially Lucy. Lucy has a purpose on this earth!

  3. You do not know me, but my name is Meredith. I started following your blog through another friend of mine. I just recently finished nursing school and was drawn to Lucy's story and her fight against cancer. I want you, your family, and Lucy to know that my husband and I are praying for Lucy. My heart aches to think about what you all must be going through but I do know God has the ability to heal your little girl and He will continue to wrap His arms around your family to comfort you through this trial. My prayer is that you will find peace in knowing God is in control and has the power to heal.Praying....

  6. I follow your story and Lucy's battle daily. I pray every day for the positive updates that I know will come yet cry with the set backs, which I'm guessing are part of the battle. I have a daughter Lucy's age and can't imagine what you are going through.
Please know your updates, as hard as they are to write, give all of us a reminder of how precious every minute is! Here's praying Lucy looks at this blog when she is 80 and has triumphed over cancer! Praying you get the peace and rest you have more than earned. Praying you keep the amazing spirit I marvel at with every post!

  11. Dear Father, please wrap your arms around Lucy & comfort her little body as she fights this cancer. Ease her pain & nausea and allow her body to rest. We know You are the Great Healer and we pray it is Your will to heal her of this. Comfort Erik & Kate as they they comfort Lucy. Help Ella & Jack have a peace about this disruption in their lives. Thank you for family & friends that help. In Jesus name, Amen.
