It's Going to Be a Good Day

********************************************************************************
So many people have asked where they might could send a card or care package for Lucy.  Please send them to the following address:
Lucy Krull

At least it's starting out that way.  Lucy rested well through the night (and so did mommy and daddy).  Her heart rate stayed lower than it had been.  She even at a huge pancake for breakfast.  We have her back on a regular cycle of Morphine until some of her Meningitis clears up.  That process is long, but the worst part, pain wise, should be gone in a few days.  The Infectious Disease doctor just came in and said the IV antibiotic will have to run 2-3 weeks.  Again, this will delay starting her radiation but they are going to get us over to St. Jude ASAP for planning and pre-treatment analysis.  Please pray specifically that God will heal Lucy of the meningitis completely so that we can begin treatment for her cancer.  We don't have a lot of time to waste.

Dr. Boop decided not to do her LP this morning since she did so well last night.  He will be monitoring her headaches today and then will determine if one will be necessary tomorrow or this afternoon.  She played her DS for about 5 minutes and watched about 10 min of TV.  My poor baby just has no stamina.  Just now we went for a ride in a wagon.  She asked to get out of bed and we thought this would be a good distraction.  once again, after a tour of the 2nd floor she was ready to go back to the room and sleep.

Right now she is getting her central line dressing changed.  It's not a big deal, but she did not like it.  It's like removing a big, big band aid from her delicate little chest.  Erik and I will learn how to do this once we get to St. Jude.  It will have to be done 3 times a week but hopefully it will get easier as time goes on.  It is a very sterile procedure and Erik and Lucy had to wear masks.  It was sort of cute to see.

Lucy is asleep on Erik's chest right now.  Sleeping soundly and Erik is loving it.  For 4 days after surgery he kept saying he wished her could just hold her and make her feel better.  Now he is getting to and they both love it.  All is well at the moment.

  1. I found your blog a few days ago from other bloggers who are sharing your story so that we can be in prayer for Lucy and her family. I wanted to let you know I have prayed for Lucy and for all of you, especially her mom and dad. I can't imagine. I'm not even a mother-but still. My heart hurts for you all. I've shed tears over the pictures you've posted and the words you've written. There's no doubt that Lucy is and will change lives through this story she now has. Stay strong-God has His mighty hand on your family.

  4. Kate, I read the prayer request from Our Family Advocating for the Orphan blog. My husband I sat and read your blog while our children was occupied watching a movie last night, we both just totally broke down, we cannot imagine what your family is going through, what your precious girl is going through. But we prayed, and will continue to pray, our children will be praying, I will be asking my family, my church family to lift up your sweet girl and your family. Blessings & many prayers, from the Gutman Family.

  7. I just found your blog today and have spent the last hour "getting to know you" through your blog. I cannot even begin to imagine what you're going through. Please know that my prayers are with you and your family during this horribly difficult time. I am so thankful that we serve a God who is able to do more than we could ever imagine. I am praying for God to heal Lucy. And I know that He can! I also am praying that she will be without pain and that your heart will be held by Christ every moment of every day.

  11. I never felt safer than in my Daddy's arms. Just remember that our Heavenly Father holds us even closer and safer. When you see Lucy resting peacefully in her Daddy's arms remember your Father in Heaven is holding you all! God Bless!

  12. Sometimes I read your post and feel like I am reliving some of Ivee's days in the first year of her fight to live. Lucy has less side effects from surgery, but the moments are the same. The hardness of PT, the longing to see her do the things she should be able to do. Even today, Emmett and I had to run to Walmart. I went to the shoe section, cause Ivee only owns 2 pair of shoes. Now that she is using a walker, I want her to be able to enjoy her shoes. I looked at him, after seeing the small sizes, and said, "It feels like we have had her forever and she's only 4. But she didn't even wear her first pair of shoes until she was 2 1/2 and she didn't use any shoes to walk "Ever" until she was 3 1/2. Why does it feel like she's always been with us?" He just said, "Cause we've been through so much with her."
Kate, you will become a nurse without the degree!! I have changed hickman line dressings and flushed them until I could do it with my eyes closed. Now, I have never stuck her port, but I could do it if I had too. Just choose not to when a home health nurse can do it. You will learn what GTR, NED, ANC, NPO, and Neutropenic mean. When others hear the doctors words they'll be lose, but you will understand every word. You will learn that others can walk beside you...friends and family...but no one understands you like another cancer momma does. We walk in an ugly, unwanted pair of shoes.
I'll be up this week and maybe we can drop by. Praying that the Meningitis leaves soon and leaves no need for any other procedures.
Your doing great, Kate. You know where your strength lies and you know who's arms to go to when you need someone to carry you.
If you ever need someone to listen or can't take much more of something, email, call or throw something.
    Love Hope!!!

  14. I used some of your thoughts about prayer in my Sunday School lesson today. My class prayed for Lucy today and we will continue do so. I believe God hears our prayers of intercession. We are praying for all of you, grandparents included! Cynthia
