More information to follow but wanted to let everyone know that Lucy was transported back to Le Bonheur this morning via ambulance due to fluid build up in her head.  We are waiting on the doctors to make a plan, but a shunt is in our immediate future.  Please pray for guidance for the doctors and peace and pain management for Lucy as we wait.  A shunt is not a huge procedure, but the Meningitis makes this all so much harder.

  2. Praying...
The St. Jude radio-thon is on the radio here in San Antonio today. I was in the car this morning and totally surprised to hear it. Wow...the stories the parents tell during the powerful songs are amazing. Praying that your story will one day be like some of those I heard today - success - and that God is at work all over St. Jude. Praying for your transition back to LeBonheur and then back to St. Jude.

  10. Praying for you with all we have from Houston, TX. My son has a kidney disease and has been on steriods for the majority of the past four and a half years! They are a devil drug...sucks so bad that this horrible drug is what helps are children. I know all too well about the weight gain and mood swings. I often wonder if my baby is truly who he is supposed to be or if the drugs have altered his final outcome. I hope that makes sense.
You are so right when you say that you will never be the same. Once you have experienced a sick child NOTHING will ever be the same! But sometimes I think...it really changed me for the better. I just hate that my child has had to go through hurt in order for that to happen. I will continue to pray for you guys until Lucy has beat this!

  12. Lucy, Kate, and family, you are in my prayers! I recieved this email today and I sure you find yourself asking "WHY?" daily and even thought this does not help the hurt, hopefully it will help the hope...GO LUCY GO!!

If you never felt pain, then how would you know that I am a Healer?

If you never had to pray, How would you know that I am a Deliverer?

If you never had a trial, how could you call yourself an overcomer?

If you never felt sadness, How would you know that I am a Comforter?

If you never made a mistake, How would you know that I am a forgiver?

If you knew all, How would you know that I will answer your questions?

If you never were in trouble, How would you know that I will come to your rescue ?

If you never were broken, Then how would you know that I can make you whole?

If you never had a problem,How would you know that I can solve them?

If you never had any suffering, Then how would you know what I went through?

If you never went through the fire, Then how would you become pure?

If I gave you all things, How would you appreciate them?

If I never corrected you, How would you know that I love you?

If you had all power, Then how would you learn to depend on me?

If your life was perfect, Then what would you need me for?

  14. May God give you,
    For every storm, a rainbow
    For every tear, a smile,
    For every care, a promise,
And a blessing in each trial,
...for every problem a faithful friend to share. For every sigh, a sweet song
And an answer for each prayer.

May God grant you peace, and continued faith and hope as you continue this miserable journey. You are a beautiful family, and although most of us are strangers to you, we are sent by God to provide you with hope, and unconditional love and prayers. Thank you for your updates. Hugs for Lucy, from a Mom-Mom in NJ

  19. Hi Kate,

Your blog was sent to me by a reader of mine and I really wanted to reach out to you. I read about your sweet girl and I can relate to a lot of what your going through.

Although my son does not have cancer he has had bacterial meningitis 3x and now has a VP shunt to treat his hydrocephalus. He has spent most of his life in hospitals and we know all too well how crazy scary all that can be. He is 7 months old!

Please feel free to email me. I'd love to connect with someone who can relate to something like this.

    Praying for your little one.

  21. over the course of 24 months starting Christmas 2008, i had 3 shunt surgeries. i'm 24 now so was diagnosed very late, and the surgeries were pure hell. i'll be praying for your girl extra hard, as my last surgery was this past december and i am STILL struggling.

they do say it's MUCH easier on kids, so i'm praying that Lucy heals quickly from the surgery without the pain that us older folks experience. ;-) i babysat a boy with a shunt and it really is amazing how well the younger ones can handle such physical challenges!

  23. Hey Kate, I'm a neighbor of Cheri's and my kids and I have been praying for Lucy since we found out 3 weeks ago. I hope you've had a chance or will take a second to listen to Laura Story's new single "Blessings." She is a good friend and amazing song writer and her husband had a brain tumor found about 1.5 years after they were married (if you watch her video on laurastorymusic.com, you'll see my hubby in the background performing thier wedding ceremony :). The song is about her new and daily view of blessings and how they've had the ups and downs of life since this discovery and treatment of his tumor. I hope its a blessing to you! Know your family is prayed for from SC!

  24. I have been saying daily prayers of healing for Lucy and will continue these but will be adding prayers of thanks for her amazing mother who in the midst of her own overwhelming struggles has been a voice for all the other families at Le Bonheur to bring awareness to the struggles of so many. Thank you Kate! Go Lucy Go, there are so many people praying and sending love and light your way every day.
