Thank you

Just a quick note to say thank you for all the kind words of support and encouragement.  I read them at night and wish I could respond to all.  I know I can't so I won't try.  Just know that I read them all and they touch my soul just when I need it most.  I spirit is renewed when I am reminded how much my child is loved and by how many people are praying for her.  Keep it up please.

Go Lucy Go!!!

  5. Kate,
I am one of Erik's high school friends. I am in constant prayer for you all and sweet Lucy. It makes my heart hurt to hear what she is having to endure. I have a daughter, and I just can't imagine. It thrills me to hear about Lucy's milestones and happy moments that you post. I check for your updates throughout the day, praying that Lucy has had a good day. Thank you for sharing the updates with us. We continue to pray.

  9. Kate,

I just saw you as we waited in line at the KidsTown Consignment sale. We chatted while we waited and I knew that you looked familiar. Just this week I kept seeing little Lucy's info popping up on people's facebook pages and again knew that I knew you. It all came to me when I realized that we went to Memphis together. We have many mutual friends. I am praying for your sweet girl and well, for all of you. You all are on my mind constantly. I have added you to the prayer list at Life Fellowship Church in Olive Branch as well. Please post on here if you need anything at all!

  11. Kate, you and Lucy, Erik, Ella, Jack, Nancy, Paul, Rebecca, John Paul and the rest of you are continuously in our thoughts and each time a thought enters a prayer begins. We love each and everyone of you and hold you high in the light of God's overwhelming and unexplainable love. Our human hearts, minds and bodies are not capable of the capacity of love that God has in store for each and everyone of us, as his children. Know that he has great things in store for us and that there is no challenge he allows for us to go through that without his help we can not overcome. These days are trying ones, but he is still there holding your hand.

  12. Hi my name is Jenni and my family and I have been going to Covington 1st Baptist for about a year. I am sorry we have not had the chance to meet each other, your grandparents sit behind us at church. Just wanted you to know we are keeping your whole family in our prayers daily and especially your little Lucy. I have been trying to spread the word to everyone about Lucy and what she is going through and for everyone to lift her up to the Lord in prayer.I am also involved in a family forum and have let my friends there know about her as well so she is being prayed for from coast to coast. I know Lucy has a long road ahead of her as well as the struggle for you and your husband having to watch her endure this but what a strong soul she is !!
Keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers !!
    GO LUCY GO !!!

    Psalms 31:24
Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.

  13. Kate,
A friend from college sent out a prayer request for Lucy, and she included your blog address. Since that day last week, I am often praying for your family and checking your blog throughout each day (I have made it an app on my phone so I can check in for any updates on Lucy!)
I am so sorry that you sweet daughter and your family is facing such a difficult time as this. I appreciate your honesty in your blog posts that include your strong faith as well as just how difficult this time is for you.
While our path is a little different from yours, we have also sat at the bedside of our daughter while she has fought for her life in the hospital. Our middle daughter, 7 years old, has faced many heart surgeries, a stroke, and a kidney problem as a result of her stroke. So many of the raw, honest feelings you share is a place that I can completely relate too. I, too, just longed for the "normal, boring" day of laundry and grocery shopping to re-enter our life.
While those times have by far been the most difficult moments we have experienced as a family, I can look back now and see how God has taught us so much through those experiences. We saw Him in the way He brought the right people (doctors, friends, support) into our life, the way we were supported and prayed for my friends and also complete strangers, and the way that people stepped in and prayed for us when my mouth couldn't even find a way to form the words. I am thankful that it sounds like your family also has an amazing support system.
While I know these are never journeys that we would choose, a blessing that we have seen is just how far the stories of sweet children like Lucy and also our daughter reach others and how God uses it to completely impact others lives for Him.
When doctors left us with a prognosis without hope, the Lord stepped in and proved that His plans for our daughter were bigger than any diagnosis the doctors' may give. I am praying that God will also use the healing of Lucy to show that faith is bigger than medicine!
At a time when we truly needed our strength to be completely renewed just to get through the day, I found such comfort in this Scripture:

    Lamentations 3:22-24
"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new EVERY morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him."

My husband, myself, and our three daughters will continue to pray for the quick, uncomplicated healing of Lucy, for Ella and Jack while you are with Lucy, and for strength and wisdom for you both as parents.

    God bless you,
    Summer and Layton Dale

  14. Kate,
I know of you through my ex husband when he work at rose. His name is David Wolf. I can relate to some of what you are going through but not all. Destany doesnt have the illness Lucy does but her epilepsy is really bad. When she was in the hospital this past November not expected to live there were a few things I questioned myself but I never questioned my faith. God brought my little girl out of her induced coma and brought her home to us. It was an obstacle course cause she set up pneumonia and they told us that she was to weak to make it out this time. I never gave up on her cause she is a fighter and proved everyone at Lebohneur wrong. Also the staff there becomes your best friend. I pray for you guys everyday and hope that Lucy will continue to get better and prove to be a little fight just like my Destany.

  17. I found your blog through mutual friends - think we may have been in the Greek system at the same time at U of M - I have a 2 year old daughter and Lucy's journey hits too close to home. I cannot even begin to imagine what your family and Lucy are going through right now. You seem like such a strong women...stay strong for your baby girl!!!

  18. Kate, We have prayed and prayed for your family. We will continue to pray. I keep looking for the right words, I just don’t have them. I put my self in your shoes and I just cry. You have such a wonderful support system. I think about all the times I have worked at the hospital and there have been so many with no one there to pray with them. Your community loves you! Everywhere I look I see the beautiful bows. My Ella has been asking so many questions about sweet Lucy and she has prayed so many prayers. She even got upset because she fell asleep last night before she prayed for her. She has prayed for you and your family, for the doctors and nurses, and for Lucy’s mommy and daddy to be strong for Lucy. It’s so beautiful to watch but so hard also. I wish no one had to have those prayers but please know that we are praying at the Locke household.

  19. Kate, You don't know me, but I wanted to let you know I am praying for you, Lucy and your sweet family! I hope it helps to know how many people are lifting all of you up in prayer! I pray mostly for healing, but also for the Lord to wrap you all in His arms and comfort you and to get Lucy through this painful time in her life quickly and for His wisdom when you have to make decisions regarding her care. I'm so very sorry you are having to go through this.

  22. I don't know if Lebonheur has someone who specializes in Pain Maintenance there but we have had to work with the one at Shriner's Hospital in St. Louis. One of our daughters can take Loratab and the other can't. One can handle Morphine and the other is allergic. Keep pursuing possibilities if you can. We will specifically pray that she starts eating and keeping it down! I know that is so important! We all prayed for Lucy again tonight! My 4th grade daughter said there is a girl in her class making and wearing bows for Lucy! The Lord is hearing all our prayers! Take care of yourself too!

  23. from a sister in Christ....
when you cannot cry tomorrow, I cried for you tonight. I know that the Lord will gather my tears and put them in your bottle in heaven. He knows....Duet 32:4 says "God does no wrong."
How hard that must be for you to believe now, but your faith is so obvious and He will help you believe it.

  26. Dear Kate and Erik. My wife told me about Lucy last week and you've been on my mind every day since. I pray that the Lord continues to give Lucy the strength she needs to work through the pain. I pray that He gives you peace in your minds to know you are not in control, but can cast your cares on Him and trust in Him to bring you through this trial. I pray that you'll see God working in and celebrate each of Lucy's milestones. I pray that you sleep soundly tonight... Goodnight. ~Josh (Stage III Melanoma Survivor)
