Update for Friday

Good afternoon Friends.  Lucy is resting well today, although she seems to be very bothered by her back.  We are hoping to gradually decrease the morphine, but right now she is fairly dependent upon it for rest.  We will be testing out the pressure in her back as we try to remove her drain.  Our specific prayer is that God would heal her back so that we can move forward with her treatment at St. Jude.

  2. Dear Kate,
So glad that Lucy is having a better day. Your family is in my prayers. Lately when I pray for Lucy, this song comes to mind. Keep up the faith. You have lots of prayer warriers. May God comfort you during these trying days.

    - MIGHTY TO SAVE LYRICS - HILLSONG AUSTRALIA

    Everyone needs compassion,
    Love that's never failing;
    Let mercy fall on me.

    Everyone needs forgiveness,
    The kindness of a Saviour;
    The Hope of nations.

Saviour, He can move the mountains,
My God is Mighty to save,
    He is Mighty to save.

    Forever, Author of salvation,
He rose and conquered the grave,
    Jesus conquered the grave.

So take me as You find me,
    All my fears and failures,
    Fill my life again.

I give my life to follow
    Everything I believe in,
    Now I surrender.

My Saviour, He can move the mountains,
My God is Mighty to save,
    He is Mighty to save.
    Forever, Author of salvation,
He rose and conquered the grave,
    Jesus conquered the grave.

Shine your light and let the whole world see,
We're singing for the glory of the risen King...Jesus (x2)

My Saviour, He can move the mountains,
My God is Mighty to save,
    He is Mighty to save.
    Forever, Author of salvation,
He rose and conquered the grave,
    Jesus conquered the grave.

My Saviour, you can move the mountains,
    You are mighty to save,
    You are mighty to save.
    Forever, Author of Salvation,
You rose and conquered the grave,
    Yes you conquered the grave

  3. Somehow, I found your blog today. This coming Tuesday marks one year since we found out our precious 3 year old son has rhabdomyosarcoma muscle cancer. We live in Arkansas and have been treated at Arkansas Childrens hospital for the last year. We were told Jed had a small chance of survival. Praise God, one year later and he has CLEAN SCANS! You can go to my blog and I pray that you are uplifted. Go back to one year ago and see our journey and how God walked with us each step. I will get my prayer warriors on this asap! From a mothers heart, Lori

  6. Kate and Erik,
I’m praying that Lucy’s back heals soon so she can begin the next part of her journey. I pray that she is able to rest and be comfortable. I can’t imagine how painful that must be.

I know that you wonder “why Lucy?” Obviously, only God knows that reason. What I do know is that through this horrific journey that you all have been on, you have spoken to my heart and (from the comments I’ve read) many others. I know that you can think of a million other ways that you would be more than happy to minister to others, share your faith, and spread the Word of God. But, that is what you are doing, and I thank you! I check on Lucy (through the blog) throughout the day, but always first when I wake up and right before bed. Through the scripture that you posted, Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God”- you really slapped me in the face with that this morning. I need to say: 1. Ouch, and 2. Thank you! That was something that I needed to hear. More than you know.

Yesterday driving home, I was, of course, thinking of Lucy, and how all of the responses to your blog have come literally from around the world. I envisioned all of those people praying for her healing as an enormous hand-holding chain that could circle the Earth.

One last thing I would like to share. When I was around Lucy’s age, I was in the hospital for an extended period of time. I remember, like you said, strangers coming in and out of the room. There was one visitor, however, who I could never recall, but I will always remember the gift he brought. It was a framed piece with only the words “Believing is Seeing” beautifully written. It didn’t mean much to me at first, but it did to my parents. That has been a phrase that I have lived by in my life. We must stay strong in our faith, though it will surely be tested, and trust in the Lord.

Continuing to send prayers from Maryville!

  10. I am nursing a 4 year old with the flu these days. And as we lay in bed together, she began to rub my lips and said, I love you mommy. Isn't the love of a child amazing? Looking at the photos of you holding your Lucy's hand and talking of the grief on your face, it broke my heart. They trust us so much and all we want to do is make them better. We will take our days of flu a million times over, compared to Lucy's pain, and I say that with no light heartedness. Just aww over how they love and trust us, even when they feel so badly.

I was talking to one of my best friends today, she lost her 4 year old to cancer, this May will be one year. her grief is swallowing her and later as I reflected on her and talking to God, he reminded me that when I try to put a human face on God, He makes NO sense. But I can't do that to the Alpha and Omega, can I? But on the other hand, I can curl up in his lap and weep and wait for him to comfort me like a father as close as my fingertips.

  12. Forgot to mention in my post awhile ago that Lucy is EVERYWHERE.I have never seen such awesome support for one person since I moved away from Colorado. Tipton county has pink and purple everywhere. I live in Munford and there are ribbons on almost every street and I don't think I have seen an open business without a ribbon. My kids and I will be getting two tomorrow to hang on our front fence. Once for Lucy and one for you. :) I'm a mom first and I know how hard this is but you are doing an awesome job lady.

  19. I linked to your blog from a friend's blog, and I just read all the posts since Lucy's first horrible day. I just want you to know that our 3 year old, Sarah was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma last June. At her initial diagnosis, she was given very little hope. But God had other plans, and she is cancer free today. God did so many miracles during Sarah's 6 month treatment journey. He can do the same for Lucy. Add us to your family of prayer warriors for your precious girl.
